Plant Manager

The Plant Manager supervises, manages, and coordinates the safe production of quality products in a clean environment by overseeing and directing all operations in the plant. This position oversees the Floor Supervisors, Shipping & Receiving department, and is the lead for quality oversight in the plant.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS FOR THIS POSITION:
  • Manages subordinate supervisors and/or production manager who supervise all plant employees.
  • Perform quality checks and approvals on the production floor as needed.
  • Set & maintain quality, efficiency, and production goals and monitor progress. Report these out as needed.
  • Track waste data and work with direct reports and other departments to continuously improve.
  • Investigate quality complaints (NCRs) and determine corrective action procedures when applicable.
  • Monitor and report on-time delivery goals and performance.
  • Ensure that the Production team works with the Maintenance department to coordinate and schedule machine repairs and preventative maintenance.
  • Coordinate plant safety, environmental and training activities in cooperation with the Human Resources Department.
  • Analyze changes in the industry, research innovations in equipment that can be adapted to company operations and make recommendations to maximize sales, product quality, and customer satisfaction
  • Participate in regular safety meetings and training.
  • Approve time off requests for direct reports and plan for coverage and business needs accordingly.
  • Act as backup to Floor Supervisors when coverage is needed.
  • Coach and mentor direct reports through regular reviews and ensure that they are doing the same for their direct reports.
  • Review and analyze production costs and product quality and modify production and inventory control programs to maintain and enhance profitable operation of the plant.
  • Keep appropriate management informed of problems or situations that may affect the performance of the plant.
  • Meet with customers, suppliers, and vendors as needed.
  • Maintain a clean and safe working environment.
  • Comply with company policies and procedures and all applicable laws and regulations, including federal and/or state required environmental systems, OSHA Safety and Health rules, and standard operating procedures.
  • Attend NINJA Meetings.
  • Regular and predictable attendance.
  • Additional duties as assigned.


PREFERRED EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE
  • High school diploma or GED plus college and/or appropriate technical courses.
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in the corrugated industry as a supervisor.
  • Experience with specific machine operations, maintenance, troubleshooting and repair.
  • Machine specific experience: gluing, flexo printing, ink, and color, litho labeling.
  • Knowledge of various paper stocks, board grade combinations, POP displays and printing processes.
  • Knowledge of products, machine limitations and costing variables.
  • Knowledge of industry specific safety standards and OSHA regulations.

REQUIRED SKILLS

  • Ability to work well with and speak to groups.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Good communication skills, verbal and written.
  • Knowledge of computers and various production software systems.
