The Role

This position focuses on diagnostics, preventative maintenance, inspections, repairs, and commercial vehicle inspections on Freightliner and Western Star trucks while working as part of a collaborative Service team.

Repair and Maintenance
  • Perform diagnostics, preventative maintenance, inspections, and repairs on heavy-duty trucks
  • Complete commercial vehicle inspections and related repairs
  • Test vehicles to ensure they meet safety standards and manufacturer specifications
  • Coordinate with Parts Technicians to ensure required components are available or ordered

Troubleshooting
  • Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, electronic, engine, and aftertreatment systems
  • Review repair concerns provided by Service Advisors
  • Diagnose faults using OEM diagnostic equipment and procedures
  • Communicate repair findings, recommendations, and estimated completion timelines

Documentation
  • Accurately record labour time, diagnostics, repairs performed, and parts used
  • Complete repair orders and inspection documentation thoroughly
  • Ensure documentation meets company, OEM, warranty, and regulatory requirements

Professional Development
  • Participate in ongoing OEM, manufacturer, and in-house technical training
  • Continue developing your diagnostic and repair skills
  • Maintain certifications and remain current with evolving technology
  • Share your knowledge and support apprentice development

Education, Certification and Experience
  • Valid Ontario 310T Truck and Coach Technician certification or equivalent Canadian journeyperson certification required
  • Red Seal endorsement preferred
  • DriveON or other commercial vehicle inspection experience is preferred
  • Must be willing and eligible to obtain B.C. Authorized Inspector certification
  • Freightliner and/or Western Star experience is an asset
  • Detroit and Cummins diagnostic software experience is an asset
  • Strong troubleshooting skills with electrical systems, engines, and aftertreatment
  • Valid Class 1 or Class 3 driver's licence is an asset

New West Truck Centres will support the successful candidate in obtaining their B.C. Authorized Inspector certification.
