Job Overview
The Township of Langley is currently recruiting for up to two temporary full-time Electrical Technicians to join our team of professionals in the Public Works Division, Utilities Operations Department. Reporting to the Manager, Utilities Operations, in this unionized position you will perform a variety of skilled technical work at a journeyman level related to the design, upgrades, installation and maintenance of water and wastewater facilities and related wireless radio communication and control systems.

Responsibilities
  • Participate in determining design requirements for municipal electronic and electrical installations
  • Investigate electronic and communication system failures and malfunctions, diagnose problems and make minor repairs and adjustments to a variety of utilities water and wastewater operations systems
  • Install, adjust, maintain and repair telemetry and SCADA systems, programmable logic controllers and associated equipment and controls
  • Develop preliminary plans for approval and prepare project specifications and cost estimates
  • Perform other related work as required

Qualifications
  • Completion of Grade 12, supplemented by completion of technical courses related to the work, such as courses on the SCADA system, plus sound related journeyman experience working with electrical and electronic control equipment and systems, or an equivalent combination of training and experience
  • Thorough knowledge of the standard methods, practices, materials, tools and equipment, including telemetry and SCADA systems, used in the installation and maintenance of specialized electrical and electronic control systems and equipment
  • Considerable knowledge of the hazards and required safety precautions related to the work
  • Considerable knowledge of the rules and regulations governing the work performed
  • Ability to prepare preliminary design plans and participate in defining design criteria for specific installations
  • Ability to read and interpret performance data and error messages from controls, sensors, transmitters and related mechanisms

Required Certifications/Licenses
Candidates must have the following valid and current certifications/licenses (must be valid at the time the posting closes) and these must be attached with your application.
  • BC Class 5 (full privilege) Driver's License.
