Northrop Grumman is seeking Associate Energetics Engineers. This position will be located at our Defense Systems Sector in Elkton, MD, as part of our Propulsion Systems and Controls Business Unit.
Northrop Grumman Propulsion Systems and Controls (PS&C) facility in Elkton, Maryland began solid-propellant rocket operations in 1948. Today, the Elkton PS&C facility designs, develops, and produces solid-propellant propulsion and ordnance systems in programs professionally managed for a wide variety of Government and commercial customers. The facility also serves as the hub for offsite engineering and test facilities in Ronkonkoma, NY and Palm Beach Gardens, FL.
Elkton, Maryland is located on the Upper Chesapeake Bay, midway between Philadelphia and Baltimore. Discover charming small towns, parks with miles of trails, specialty and antique shops, award winning restaurants, and inns. You can hike, bike, camp, bird watch, ride horseback, or drop a fishing line. Five rivers, Chesapeake Bay and the C&D Canal can be explored by boat or by land. Roles/Responsibilities:
Engineering and design of a wide range of production tooling components for energetic aerospace propulsions systems including molds, lifting devices, handling fixtures, test fixtures, etc. and prepares input for documentation.
37Coordinates and develops tooling requirements with project engineering, process engineering, manufacturing, quality, etc.
37Responsible for coordinating tooling with program teams, including the establishment of tooling scope and monitoring projects against planned scope.
37Responsible for the tool lifecycle for assigned programs
37Conduct tool-design reviews with cross-functional teams to ensure HOPS safety adherence, first-time quality, yield, and effectiveness.
37Prepare estimates of tooling design and fabrication costs for proposals.
37Identifies opportunities for improvements to existing designs
Basic Qualifications:
This requisition may be filled at either a level 1 or a level 2. Basic qualifications for an Engineer 1 are a Bachelors Degree. Basic qualifications for an Engineer 2 are a Masters Degree.
A candidate must meet ALL of the below criteria. The candidate must:
37Be completing or has completed their degree (Bachelors, Masters, or PhD) from an accredited institution by August 2026
37Be majoring in or having majored in Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering, or closely related discipline
37Be able to obtain a U.S. Government security clearance (U.S. citizenship is a pre-requisite)
37Experience or coursework in CAD and Modeling
Preferred Qualifications:
37Have an overall cumulative GPA of 3.0/4.0 or higher
37Experience or coursework in stress calculations for support structures
37Experience or coursework in Siemens NX and TcUA
37Experience or coursework in geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (ASME Y14.5M)
37Experience or coursework in machine shop fabrication practices and material selection
37Experience or coursework in MS Suite of products
37Experience or coursework with collaborating on team projects
37Previous internship experience
Salary Range
Level 1: $72,700 - $109,100
Level 2: $87,600 - $131,400
