Northrop Grumman is seeking Associate Design Engineers and Design Engineers. This position will be located at our Space sector in Promontory, UT.

The qualified candidate will become part of Northrop Grumman's Propulsion Engineering team.

Roles and Responsibilities
  • Create and update 3D CAD models and assemblies for propulsion components and hardware.
  • Develop and maintain PMI / Model-Based Definition, including dimensions, tolerances, notes, and other manufacturing information applied directly to 3D models.
  • Generate and revise associated engineering drawings and specifications as needed to support manufacturing, inspection, and test.
  • Ensure design geometry is correct, fully constrained, and functions properly within higher-level assemblies (fit, form, clearance, and interfaces).
  • Apply dimensioning and tolerancing practices (including GD&T) in accordance with applicable standards and company design guidelines.
  • Collaborate with mechanical, manufacturing, and systems engineers to ensure design manufacturability, assembly, inspection, and testing requirements are met.
  • Support the fabrication and assembly of prototypes and production hardware by addressing drawing/model questions and incorporating feedback from the factory floor.
  • Prepare and process engineering change orders for drawings, models, and specifications, maintaining accurate configuration control.
  • Adhere to design standards, checklists, and quality practices for product definition data.

  • Be majoring in or having majored in Design Technology, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or related STEM field

Preferred Qualifications for both levels:
  • Have an overall cumulative GPA of 3.00/4.0 or higher
  • Hands-on experience with 3D CAD tools (e.g., NX, or similar).
  • Coursework or project experience in mechanical drafting, 3D modeling, and PMI / Model-Based Definition (MBD).
  • Familiarity with dimensioning and tolerancing standards (e.g., ASME Y14 series) and basic GD&T concepts.
  • Experience working with manufacturing, machining, or fabrication (shop, lab, or project environment).
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to produce clear, accurate product definition data.


Salary Range:

Associate Design Engineer: $59,900 to $89,900

Design Engineer: $72,100 to $108,100

Secondary Level Salary Range: $72,100.00 - $108,100.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
