Full Job Description

The Aerospace Corporation is hiring a Software Engineer for the Information Systems and Cyber Division (ISCD).  Information Systems and Cyber Division (ISCD) staff couple the latest in information system technologies, such as elastic compute clouds, containerization, microservices, real-time operating systems, and visualization frameworks, with expertise in cyber security, software architecture, software engineering, data science, Artificial Intelligence, process improvement, and software development to deliver responsive, resilient, high-performance software intensive systems to our Intelligence Community, DoD, and civilian customers. 

Job Summary

Selected candidate will help drive the modernization, secure architecture, and rapid deployment of software-intensive systems. In this role, you will bridge the gap between cutting-edge commercial cloud-native technologies and critical national security space, ground, and launch systems.

You will work alongside senior engineers to modernize legacy systems, design scalable cloud services, develop microservice-based architectures, and implement DevSecOps practices that ensure reliability, security, and mission readiness.  

Position is full-time, on site at our office in El Segundo, CA.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Contribute to the design and development of modern, cloud-native software architectures using containers, microservices, and API-driven frameworks.

  • Participate in building automated CI/CD pipelines, secure software supply chains, and modern development workflows.

  • Help design and integrate backend services, REST APIs, and data pipelines supporting distributed applications and AI/ML capabilities.

  • Support modernization of legacy systems into resilient, scalable platforms using Docker, cloud services, and modern development frameworks.

  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to translate mission requirements into end-to-end software solutions.

  • Work on hands-on development tasks across backend, frontend, infrastructure, and DevSecOps tooling depending on project needs.

  • Contribute to documentation, testing, code reviews, and Agile/Scrum ceremonies.

What You Need to be Successful

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering or related technical discipline from an accredited  university, pursuing or conferring within 12 months. 

  • Minimum 0-1 year of industry experience

  • Strong programming skills in at least one high-level language (Python, Java, or JavaScript).

  • Exposure to modern development practices (Git, Agile, structured testing, documentation).

  • Experience developing full-stack or backend applications.

  • Exposure to building microservices or distributed systems, preferably using containerized development workflows.

  • Exposure to ML model development, data pipelines, or forecasting systems.

  • Demonstrated ability to work cross-functional teams and translate complex requirements into practical software solutions.

  • Willingness to travel occasionally to other domestic work locations or customer sites.

  • This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance, which is issued by the U.S. government. U.S. citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance.

How You Can Stand Out

It would be impressive if you have one or more of these:

  • Advanced degree

  • In-depth knowledge and experience in two or more of the following areas, with the ability to independently lead associated tasks:

    • Experience with cloud environments such as AWS, including services like Lambda API Gateway, CloudFront and S3.

    • Understanding of REST APIs, OAuth, CORS, rate limiting, and secure backend design.

    • Experience designing structured backend layers, validation, and secure workflows.

    • Experience in containerized development environments, environment-based configuration, or CI/CD automation.

    • Experience in integration of ML into microservices.

    • Experience engaging with stakeholders, business teams, or non-technical collaborators.

    • Backend service development using modern frameworks (e.g., Spring Boot), with REST API design, systems integration, and database interaction (relational and cloud-hosted)

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly convey complex technical information to a wide range of audiences.

  • Demonstrated ability to bring industry knowledge of modern software practices to drive innovation within established teams.
