Description

The 1st Assistant Manager will work directly with the Head Golf Professional to provide top-tier golf experience while assisting with overall managerial responsibility for the Golf Starters operation. Additionally, this person will also be working cooperatively with other departments throughout the organization. In the absence of the Head Professional, the 1st Assistant will act as MOD for the department.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

Golf Operations Management
  • Ensure staff is properly checking in all green fees, golf cars, and other charges necessary, and facilitate accurate accounting and recordkeeping.
  • Develop and manage an innovative tournament program, group outings, and leagues that service all customer segments.
  • Ensure the proper storage, safety, and cleaning of golf equipment; includes golf cart fleet.
  • Accomplish and fulfill established programs for property protection, care, and use of all company assets.
  • Development of strategic pace management initiatives with the Head Professional to ensure the pace of play program operates efficiently while maintaining a focus on guest satisfaction.
  • Liaison to the retail team assisting in inventory control of hard goods, soft goods, special orders, displays and sales (LASB, SHGC, DMGC).


Golf Administration
  • Assist in employee development; recruit, hire, train, motivate, and supervise all hourly department staff; maintain accurate payroll records.
  • Ensure evaluations and annual reviews are completed and recorded for all applicable staff.
  • Update and maintain golf shop policies, procedures, and job descriptions, and ensure they are adhered to and posted in the proper areas.
  • Maintain safety standards and safety equipment within OSHA requirements.
  • Attend applicable committee meetings and board, management, and staff meetings, when requested.
  • Adhere to, enforce, and implement policies and procedures of the facility.
  • Set up regular written communication with supervisor to include facility, programming, staff, and customer updates.


Business & Financial
  • Assist Head Professional with the financial and operational performance of the golf shop operations and golf services.
  • Assist in the development and preparation of budgets, including forecasting and review of all department revenues and expenses on a daily, weekly, monthly, and annual basis.
  • Ensure systems controls are in place to safeguard assets, revenues, and resources.


Other Facility/Departmental Responsibilities
  • Work closely with all departments to achieve the goals and objectives of the facility.
  • Along with the Head Professional, maintain a working relationship with the Superintendent and provide advice on course playability and tournament set up.
  • Be familiar with and interested in the game of golf, including knowledge of the USGA rules of golf and tournament operations.
  • Along with Head Professional, lead in the development of other Assistant Golf Professionals within the PGA's Golf Management Program.
  • Comply with all Pebble Beach Company safety and health policies and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as directed by Head Professional.


Required Skills
  • Minimum 3 years of supervisory experience.
  • Completion of PGA Membership certification program.
  • Maintain PGA of America membership in good standing in an active classification.
  • Act as a role model for all employees by demonstrating the behavior and work ethic expected of all employees.
  • Strong organizational, planning, and prioritization skills.
  • Service and customer-focused attitude.
  • Experienced in written and oral business communications.
  • Remain up to date on customer relationship management tactics and strategies.
  • Experienced computer user, including Microsoft Word and Excel. Proficient in other applications, e.g., email, internet, and tournament software (Golf Genius Preferred).
  • Understanding of retail inventory / merchandising and golf course maintenance practices.
  • Maintain and promote a positive professional image within the community.
  • Attend conferences, workshops, and trade shows to keep abreast of marketing and business trends.
  • Maintain a credible golf game and remain current on teaching innovations.
  • Valid California driver's license with less than 2 points.
