The University of Notre Dame du Lac, known simply as Notre Dame or ND, is a private Catholic research university in Notre Dame, Indiana, outside the city of South Bend. Notre Dame is a large, four-year, highly residential research university. The university is organized into six colleges. Notre Dame's graduate program has more than 50 master's and 25 doctoral degree programs. Notre Dame has a large number of student organizations, including the Notre Dame Debating Society, the oldest debating society on campus and the largest student organization. The university has a significant impact on the South Bend economy, with an estimated economic impact of over $1 billion per year. Notre Dame has a strong athletic tradition, with the Fighting Irish football team being one of the most popular and successful college football programs in the country.
