The Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) is a department of the state government of Oregon responsible for systems of transportation. It was first established in 1969. ODOT works to provide a safe, efficient transportation system that supports economic opportunity and livable communities for Oregonians. The department is responsible for the construction, maintenance, and operation of the state highway system, as well as public transportation systems, railroads, airports, and ports. ODOT also works to promote alternative modes of transportation, such as biking and walking, and to reduce the environmental impact of transportation.
