It is headquartered in Springfield, Illinois. IDHS is responsible for providing aid to individuals and families in need, including financial assistance, medical assistance, food stamps, and other social services. The department also provides services to individuals with developmental disabilities and mental health issues. IDHS was established in 1997, and it is currently led by Secretary Grace B. Hou.
