The Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) is a standalone United States federal agency, an operational component under Department of Homeland Security (DHS) oversight. Its mission is to lead the national effort to protect and enhance the resilience of the nation's physical and cyber infrastructure. CISA was established on November 16, 2018, when President Donald Trump signed into law the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency Act of 2018. The agency is responsible for protecting the nation's critical infrastructure from physical and cyber threats, including the power grid, water supply systems, transportation networks, and communication systems. CISA also works to improve the cybersecurity of federal agencies and critical infrastructure owners and operators, and to promote cybersecurity awareness and education across the country.
