The Advanced Research Projects Agency-Energy (ARPA-E) is a United States government agency tasked with promoting and funding research and development of advanced energy technologies. ARPA-E was created in 2007 as part of the America COMPETES Act and is modeled after the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA). The agency's mission is to fund high-risk, high-reward research that has the potential to transform the energy landscape.
