Aeropostale, Inc. was an American clothing retailer that targeted teenagers and young adults. The company was founded in 1987 by R.H. Macy & Co., Inc. and was originally named 'Macy's Northeast'. In 1998, the company was renamed Aeropostale and began focusing on selling its own branded clothing. At its peak, Aeropostale had more than 800 stores in the United States, Puerto Rico, and Canada. However, the company struggled in the face of increased competition from fast-fashion retailers and filed for bankruptcy in 2016. Today, Aeropostale operates as a subsidiary of Authentic Brands Group, which acquired the brand in 2016.
