A lot has been said about the Disney Princesses over the years and it usually falls along the lines of criticism. Even though the characters have recently become more progressive (Moana, Mulan, Anna and Elsa of Frozen), the Princesses of yesteryear (Arielle, Belle, Aurora) are said to promote body shaming and sexist gender stereotypes and why do they brush their hair with forks?
But, in a new series of illustrations by Matt Burt, that he created for his client Simple Thrifty Living, he has reimagined these iconic princesses as high-powered career women working in roles that tend to be dominated by men. From Belle as a university chancellor to Rapunzel as a neurologist to Elsa and Anna as climate change scientists. Check them out below and you may never look at the Disney princesses the same way again.
