Artificial intelligence is transforming the modern human resource department by providing a variety of new data-driven tools. Data collecting A.I. chatbots (an automated conversation between personalized software and human user) are a popular tool that allow HR departments to track and deliver a better employee experience.
An IBM Institute for Business Value survey found that half of the sample already recognized the power of cognitive computing to “transform key dimensions of HR,” and use the tool for talent acquisition, HR operations, and talent development.
“HR leaders will need to begin experimenting with all facets of A.I. to deliver value to their organizations.” says Jeanne Meister, a partner with HR advisory and research firm Future Workplace. “As intelligent assistants become more widely used in our personal lives, we will expect to see similar usage in the workplace.”
Job descriptions haven’t changed much even though most jobs have. Many fail to include the right keywords to target the most qualified candidates. By analyzing data from 10 million job posts a month, Textio predicts the performance of a job listing and provides real-time guidance on how to improve it.
Once on the Textio platform, employers can use automated A.I. chatbot tools to get real-time feedback on job language and guidance on tone — all with the goal of recruiting the most diverse pool of candidates.
The onboarding process for new employees can be overwhelming — from tracking contracts and forms, to new logins and equipment, to scheduling training. As more companies aim to scale quickly, onboarding can easily overwhelm an HR team.
A.I. bots can help smooth this process, automatically keeping track of documents and updates, as well as answering a variety of questions across the board.

A ServiceNow survey of HR leaders identified that employees often struggle to access key HR policies when needed. A.I. chatbots provide employees automated response and guidance to navigate employees to the information they need.
In the same survey, 92% of HR leaders agreed that in the future chatbots will be important to direct employees to find information they need and 99% stated that it’s valuable for employees to feel they could find information on company policies in the evening or after hours. However, only 12% of respondents say it is easy for their employees to quickly find that information.
Human Resource professionals of the future won’t be replaced by A.I. bots, but they will need to learn to incorporate them into their workflow. A.I. chatbots are not standalones. Rather, they are part of the broader data-driven future where businesses can deliver consistency and quality to every level of their HR team.
“I think a lot of people are confused about how powerful A.I. is right now,” says Rodney Brooks of Rethink Robotics. “No one is sure how many jobs it could take or the types of jobs it could take.”
HR teams looking to incorporate A.I. must ask how these tools can provide an effective employee service experiences across all departments and how these tools can ensure both better productivity and quality of talent.
