It is a truth universally acknowledged that even if your closet rivals that of an emperor, most days of the week you will still come to the conclusion that you have nothing to wear. Unless your office is super casual, there is usually still a dress code of sorts or you just have a desire as a human in a professional workplace to dress presentably. Now, there are timeless brands like Brooks Brothers and J.Crew you can always turn to but there are a number of new lines, some that don’t even have brick and mortar locations, that have incredible, quality-made options for the office that you must consider.
This new brand started by sisters is a direct-to-consumer brand that offers a modern approach to retail.
“This a great brand for women to wear to the office because it’s filled with essential basics, that are incredibly transitional (seasonally, or otherwise). Pieces can effortlessly be mixed and matched (there are so many ways to style the pieces together, or with any existing wardrobe), and can be worn to work, or otherwise. In addition, the collection is made of quality, durable fabrics, while still being affordable. So, they can be worn over and over again, and are accommodating to not only established working women, but to young women just joining the workforce, are on a budget, and are only beginning to curate their workwear wardrobe essentials,” co-founder Candice Setareh told Ladders.
For fall style tips she says wearing one of these two tops with any skirt, tucked in. “Both easy and versatile options for any work environment, and perfect for the fall, as a layering piece.” She also said this dress looks great on all women and can be worn in the summer, or other warmer months with flats, or can be worn in the fall and winter with tights, and short boots.
She also suggests high waisted pants for the office. “High waisted pants offer the illusion of longer legs and a cinched waist! It can be paired with a chunky sweater or a structured blazer. It really requires minimal thought, and is the perfect workwear staple,” she said.
Sarah LaFleur along with Narie Foster and designer Miyako Nakamura (of Zac Posen) launched this brand in 2013 to provide stylish clothes for young professional women and also make the horrid experience of shopping a little better (the brand offers a personal-styling service.) The company was built on the belief that when women succeed in the workplace, the world becomes a better place. They now have a permanent showroom in Bryant Park that addition to being a place where women can shop the MM collection, it also has a dedicated event space.
Director of Offline Retail Rachel Mann, “Our goal is to be a place for professional women to gather, learn, shop, hang out, connect with each other, and of course, refresh. It’s a club-like experience where we want women to feel totally at home.”
You’ve probably heard of Target but did you know that they now have a workwear brand called Prologue? And even more exciting? Everything is under $50. The line, which is available online and in stores on Sept. 14, is all about classic clean lines and classic silhouettes and some really cozy sweaters.
Julie Guggemos, Target’s senior vice president of design and development, told Glamour, “We just had an eye on anything that felt really clean, and had exaggerated proportions in the right way We’ve learned from the other brand launches that inclusivity is so important — and obviously the guest is responding,” she adds. “And it was important for us to bring that to life.”
This San Francisco brand is quintessentially modern with its clean, simple aesthetic providing you with the ultimate cool girl wardrobe. It was founded in 2014 by Stanford grads, Jess Lee and Lizzie Agnew, and in only a few short years it is already being compared to the likes of Everlane for its chicness and ZARA for its versatility and price points.
