About This Role:- Supervise, mentor, and support Youth Services librarians and technicians, actively leading recruitment, training, scheduling, performance evaluations, and personnel management.
- Serve as a core member of the branch management team, acting as Person-In-Charge (PIC) one evening per week, on alternating weekends, and as needed.
- Maintain a welcoming and safe environment by interpreting library policies, addressing patron concerns, and enforcing the library Code of Conduct.
- Collaborate with Youth Services staff to plan, design, and deliver engaging programs, classes, and services for youth and families.
- Oversee the Youth Services programming budget, managing orders for supplies and equipment to cultivate inspiring, interactive library spaces.
- Track engagement and impact by collecting programming statistics and preparing monthly departmental reports.
- Provide direct customer service at the integrated service desk, assisting patrons with circulation, reference, technology assistance, and reader's advisory.
- Build and maintain strategic community partnerships to extend library outreach and visibility.
- Contribute to system-wide Youth Services initiatives, sharing feedback on policies, procedures, services, and future programming.
Minimum Requirements:Master's degree in library or information science and 1 year of Public Library experience.
Preferences:- Two years of public library experience.
- At least 6 months experience in a leadership, supervisor, or Person in Charge (PIC) role (including volunteer supervisor)
- Experience with budget management, including monitoring expenditures, resource allocation, and providing financial forecasts for departmental services.
- Experience planning, implementing, and evaluating high-impact programming and outreach initiatives for patrons of all ages.
- Excellent customer service skills including policy interpretation, public service, and managing difficult situations
- Experience with collection maintenance
- Knowledge of event management/summer reading tracking platforms. Working experience with Microsoft Office
Special Requirements: The position may require travel to other branches within the system. A DMV check will be conducted for employees who drive while on County business.
Work Schedule:This is a full-time, exempt position located at the Montclair Library. Montclair Library is open 6 days a week: Monday - Wednesday 10am-8pm and Thursday - Saturday 10am-5pm. The schedule includes days, one evening a week and rotating weekends. Flexibility is paramount. Schedule may vary depending upon the needs of the library.
Starting Salary Range:
$70,921.50 - $84,444.75 per year
