Project Overview:

Bechtel's Manufacturing and Technology (M&T) Business Unit is designing, building and commissioning a semiconductor fab in Clay, NY. Job Summary:

The Workface Planner serves as a key contributor to construction planning and execution, coordinating workface planning efforts to support safe, efficient, and predictable project delivery. This role partners with engineering, procurement, construction, and subcontractor teams to develop, implement, and maintain Installation Work Packages (IWPs) and Advance Work Packaging (AWP) processes. The Workface Planner also contributes to Continuous Workface Effectiveness (CWE) initiatives, supporting the identification and removal of constraints and driving productivity improvements across project teams.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Develop, sequence, and maintain Installation Work Packages (IWPs) and related workface planning deliverables that support safe, efficient, and predictable field execution.
  • Coordinate with engineering, procurement, construction, project controls, quality, safety, startup, field engineering, supervision, and subcontractors to align priorities and resolve work package constraints.
  • Support construction execution planning, including installation sequencing, labor loading, material and equipment requirements, work package release timing, and area-based execution priorities.
  • Review drawings, specifications, schedules, material status, quantity data, and project controls information to confirm package completeness, constructability, and readiness for field release.
  • Maintain and analyze readiness metrics, constraint logs, planning data, package health, and execution performance to identify risks, support recovery actions, and inform management decisions.
  • Facilitate look-ahead planning, readiness reviews, AWP workshops, and stakeholder coordination meetings to drive alignment on scope, priorities, and execution requirements.
  • Coordinate updates to work packages resulting from design changes, field conditions, schedule changes, material availability, or execution adjustments.
  • Support integration of Construction Work Areas, Construction Work Packages, Engineering Work Packages, IWPs, turnover requirements, and project controls systems.
  • Incorporate safety, quality, environmental, permit, material, and turnover requirements into work packages and field execution plans.
  • Support Construction Workface Effectiveness (CWE) initiatives by identifying productivity barriers, improving planning processes, and contributing to training, reporting, and knowledge sharing.


Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 5-8 years of relevant experience, or 9-12 years relevant work experience.
  • Understanding of Advanced Work Packaging (AWP) principles and lifecycle (preferred).


Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Strong knowledge of Advanced Work Packaging (AWP), Workface Planning (WFP), Installation Work Package (IWP) development, Construction Workface Effectiveness (CWE), construction sequencing, and field execution planning.
  • Working knowledge of construction drawings, specifications, engineering deliverables, material management, project controls, scheduling, cost reporting, quantity tracking, and turnover interfaces.
  • Ability to coordinate effectively across engineering, procurement, construction, subcontractors, safety, quality, startup, field engineering, supervision, and project controls teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify constraints, assess work package readiness, analyze planning and performance data, and support practical mitigation, recovery, and continuous improvement actions.
  • Knowledge of construction means and methods, constructability reviews, temporary construction facilities, field change management, package release requirements, and integration of safety, quality, environmental, permit, material, and turnover requirements.
  • Proficiency with planning, scheduling, AWP, project controls, quantity tracking, and digital construction platforms used to support work packaging, execution readiness, CWE reporting, and knowledge sharing.
