Full Job Description
SUMMARY

Firefly Aerospace is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Electrical Engineering Designer to support the design and integration of electrical wiring interconnect systems across our launch vehicles and spacecraft. This role focuses on creating harness layouts, interconnect documentation, and manufacturing drawings that enable rapid development, reliable flight hardware, and efficient production.

You'll work closely with electrical, mechanical, propulsion, thermal, and manufacturing engineering teams to ensure interconnect designs meet performance, environmental, and manufacturability requirements for spaceflight systems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Create and maintain drawing packages including schematics, wire diagrams, 3D routing, assembly drawings, and bill of materials.
  • Collaborate with engineers to define routing, wire gauge, shielding, grounding, derating, connector selection, and EMI/EMC considerations.
  • Integrate harness designs into vehicle CAD models, ensuring proper fit, form, and installation clearances.
  • Support rapid prototyping and flight hardware builds by resolving design issues and updating documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with Firefly standards, space environment requirements, and industry standards such as IPC/WHMA-A-620 and NASA specifications.
  • Participate in design reviews and support continuous improvement of interconnect design processes, templates, and best practices.
  • Manage revision and configuration control management for drawing packages across multiple platforms.
  • Serve as the CAD Librarian for interconnect components by creating, validating, and maintaining symbols, parts, connector families, and metadata within the CAD environments.

Required Qualifications
  • 2+ years of experience working as a technician in the aerospace industry, preferably in a research and development or manufacturing environment.
  • Solid understanding of aerospace wiring harness assemblies, connector selection, shielding, grounding, harness protection, and installation practices.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, schematics, and technical specifications.
  • Strong work ethic, problem-solving, attention to detail, documentation discipline, and configuration control management.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Associate degree in Electrical Engineering Technology, Drafting/Design, technical certification, or equivalent experience.
  • Proficiency with 3D CAD design, 2D drafting, and PLM/PDM software such as Siemens NX, Capital, and Teamcenter.
  • Experience designing and routing harnesses for aerospace or high-reliability vehicle environments.
  • Familiarity with interconnect component selection, space-compatible materials, and aerospace routing constraints.
  • Knowledge of aerospace requirements and standards such as FAA, NASA, MIL-STD, and IPC/WHMA-A-620.
  • Programming and automation skills in Python, Java, and Javascript.

Soft Skills & Culture Fit
  • Thrives in a fast-paced, hands-on development and production environment.
  • Communicates effectively across engineering, manufacturing, supply chain, and planning teams.
  • Adaptable and comfortable with evolving requirements typical of rapid development cycles.
  • High personal ownership and commitment to delivering build-ready documentation.

Firefly offers outstanding benefits for our employees, including generous health, dental and vision plans with low plan deductibles, parental leave, educational reimbursement, short term disability, and flexible PTO options.

About Firefly Space Systems

Firefly Space Systems was an American aerospace manufacturer based in Cedar Park, Texas. The company was founded in 2013 with the goal of developing low-cost launch vehicles for the small satellite industry. Firefly's Alpha rocket was designed to carry payloads of up to 1,000 kg to low Earth orbit. The company was acquired by EOS Launcher in 2017 and is now known as Firefly Aerospace. Firefly Aerospace is continuing the development of the Alpha rocket and is also working on a larger rocket called Beta, which is designed to carry payloads of up to 8,000 kg to low Earth orbit. Firefly Aerospace is committed to providing affordable access to space for small satellite operators.
