Description

Location: Wilmington area, Delaware
Schedule: Flexible, on-site, generally 30-40 hours per week
Employment type: Direct-Hire

We are seeking a compassionate Wellness Veterinarian to join a mission-led community animal welfare organization in northern Delaware. This role focuses on making high-quality veterinary care more accessible for dogs, cats, and the people who love them.

You will have the chance to build a sustainable veterinary career with genuine schedule flexibility, no routine on-call expectation, and a supportive team that values practical, compassionate medicine over production pressure.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide wellness care for companion animals, primarily cats and dogs.
  • Support community-facing preventive care and low-cost veterinary services.
  • Participate in a walk-in wellness program that can be fast-paced and high-energy.
  • Perform thorough examinations, preventive care, client education, treatment planning, and timely medical documentation.
  • Use sound clinical judgment in urgent situations, including sedation and basic surgical support when needed.
  • Work collaboratively with veterinarians, care staff, and a wider mission-driven team.
  • Help clients access care through resources designed to reduce financial barriers when possible.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
  • DVM or VMD, with active licensure or eligibility to practice in Delaware.
  • Approximately two or more years of companion-animal clinical experience preferred.
  • Confidence providing independent wellness care for dogs and cats.
  • Comfort with a walk-in, community-care setting and thoughtful client communication.
  • Strong clinical documentation and technology skills.
  • A practical, collaborative, and compassionate approach to care.
  • Alignment with the belief that veterinary care should be accessible to families facing financial constraints.
  • Spanish fluency.
  • Experience in shelter medicine, nonprofit or community medicine, low-cost care, high-volume wellness, or vaccine clinics.
  • Familiarity with shelter-management or veterinary records systems.
  • Openness to occasional weekend shifts or periodic coverage at nearby locations.

Benefits
  • Flexible schedule: We will work with the right candidate to build a schedule that fits their life.
  • No routine on-call: This is not an overnight or emergency on-call role.
  • Mission with clinical impact: Help families care for their pets when affordability is a barrier.
  • No daily production quotas: Focus on excellent, sustainable care rather than corporate volume targets.
  • Collaborative setting: Join a stable, inclusive organization with deep roots in the Delaware community.
  • Compensation starting around $65 per hour, with consideration based on experience and fit.
  • Medical, dental, vision, life insurance, and 401(k) match for employees working 30+ hours per week.
  • Paid family leave.
  • Licensure and continuing education support.
  • Generous accrued PTO, plus paid holidays and a floating personal holiday.
  • Potential signing support may be available for the right candidate.

The process is designed to move quickly:

  1. Initial conversation.
  2. In-person panel interview.
  3. Paid four-to-six-hour shadow session with the veterinary team.
  4. Offer decision.

If you are a veterinarian looking for more autonomy, more purpose, and a healthier pace without stepping away from meaningful clinical work, we would welcome the conversation.
