Full Job Description

We're currently hiring for a Web Content Specialist to support our growing federal transportation communications and digital content work. This role is ideal for an experienced web content professional who is passionate about clear, accessible, accurate digital communications and who can manage content from drafting and review through publication and ongoing maintenance.

As a Web Content Specialist, you will:

  • Write, edit, and proofread web content, documentation, and effective training and outreach materials for agency audiences.
  • Edit content, coordinate and manage required reviews, and move content through established approval workflows.
  • Use content management systems (CMS) to upload, maintain, and publish content on agency websites and intranets.
  • Optimize web copy for search engine visibility while maintaining accuracy, readability, and alignment with client objectives.
  • Ensure web pages and digital content comply with federal accessibility requirements, including Section 508.
  • Provide quality control for data and content, including checking for completeness, consistency, currency, and usability.
  • Coordinate the agency's quarterly content certification process to help ensure information remains current and accurate.
  • Develop and deliver outreach training and presentations to staff using presentation software and other training tools.
  • Use graphic applications to crop, recolor, resize, and otherwise prepare web images when needed.
  • Coordinate content-related processes and procedures, maintain trackers and documentation, and collaborate with team members and clients through meetings and collaborative work platforms.
  • Manage multiple deliverables at once, with varying deadlines, using Microsoft Office and other collaboration tools.

Location: Hybrid in the Reston, VA office. Must be in the DMV area and available for client meetings.

What This Role Requires:

  • Bachelor's degree in English, Communications, Marketing, Business, or a related discipline.
  • 5-7 years of experience in web content management, including at least 3 years of relevant experience within the last 5 years to include:
  • Experience writing, editing, and publishing content for websites or intranets.
  • Experience with a content management system and web content review and approval workflows.
  • Knowledge of SEO fundamentals and federal web accessibility requirements, including Section 508.
  • Experience developing training materials and presenting outreach or training to staff.
  • Ability to provide a writing sample.
  • US Citizenship per government contract.

  • Transportation experience, especially in highway and surface transportation.
  • Experience supporting federal agencies or public-sector communications programs.
  • Experience with database-driven content management (content administration rather than programming).
  • Proficiency in graphic applications used to crop, recolor, resize, and manipulate web images.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, especially Word and PowerPoint, and familiarity with collaboration platforms such as Teams, SharePoint, Trello, or Smartsheet.
  • Familiarity with web analytics or content performance tools.

Pay Range - There are multiple factors that are considered in determining final pay for a position, including, but not limited to, relevant work experience, skills, certifications and competencies that align to the specified role, geographic location, education and certifications as well as contract provisions regarding labor categories that are specific to the position.

The pay range for this position based on full-time employment is:

$73,770.00 - $125,408.00
