Job Description

SUMMARY:

Reporting to the Assistant Vice President for Strategic Distribution, the Web Content & Operations Manager oversees day-to-day content operations and performance for Montclair.edu and Inside.Montclair.edu. This role manages the Web Producer and ensures high-quality, timely publishing across both platforms by establishing clear priorities, workflows, and standards. The Manager is responsible for monitoring site performance trends, strengthening search visibility through technical and content SEO, and advancing GEO (AI-search readiness) so content is effectively crawled, understood, and surfaced to users. The role also owns content programming for key institutional pages-including the Montclair.edu homepage-and coordinates responses to community sentiment and feedback across channels such as Google Reviews and Reddit.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Manage the Web Producer, providing daily prioritization, quality oversight, coaching, and workload planning.
  • Own the web support intake process, including ticket triage, service standards, escalation path,s and recurring issue tracking.
  • Oversee publishing quality across WordPress and Drupal, ensuring content meets editorial, brand, accessibility, and governance standards.
  • Monitor website analytics and user behavior trends; identify opportunities to improve discoverability, engagement, and task completion.
  • Lead SEO and GEO strategy in partnership with the senior web developer, including on-page standards and technical coordination.
  • Create and maintain a content programming calendar for key pages (e.g., Montclair.edu homepage, About, priority landing pages).
  • Write, edit, and publish homepage and institutional copy-ensuring messaging stays current, clear, and aligned to University priorities.
  • Establish repeatable publishing playbooks for components, metadata, internal linking, and content hygiene across key sections of the site.
  • Coordinate cross-team collaboration with UX and development peers to ensure content changes support experience strategy and platform performance.
  • Engage with and support the University's web content community (web editors and unit liaisons) through regular meetings, Slack, and email communication.
  • Monitor and respond to community feedback signals (Google Reviews, Reddit, etc.), escalating issues and tracking patterns to inform content/action plans.
  • Provide regular reporting and recommendations to the AVP on performance trends, content opportunities, and web community pain points.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

REQUIRED:
  • Bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, digital strategy, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Minimum four years of experience managing web content operations, publishing, and optimization in a complex organization.
  • Demonstrated experience with WordPress and/or Drupal and strong knowledge of web publishing workflows and governance.
  • Strong SEO expertise, including on-page optimization, technical SEO collaboration, and performance monitoring.
  • Experience using web analytics tools (e.g., GA4) to identify trends and inform improvements.
  • Excellent writing/editing skills with proven ability to manage high-visibility institutional messaging.
  • Experience managing staff or leading day-to-day production work, including prioritization and quality control.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills and ability to translate feedback into action without derailing the roadmap.


PREFERRED:
  • Prior experience serving a higher education institution.
  • Experience with GEO/AI search readiness (structured content patterns, entity clarity, content design for retrieval).
  • Familiarity with accessibility standards and content QA practices.
  • Experience managing homepage programming and high-traffic landing page performance.
  • Experience in monitoring online reputation signals and coordinating institutional response workflows.


Salary Range
$85,550.86-$89,830.20 Annually
