Job Description

Position summary: A career-minded Water/Wastewater engineer, looking towards advancement, is needed to join JMT's fast growing Water/Wastewater consultant engineering practice. Employee will plan and lead engineering tasks and projects in the water/wastewater field through working knowledge of applicable design criteria, regulatory requirements, standards and processes; manage multiple design projects; manage preparation and updating of project schedules and cost estimates; develop, analyze and document critical design elements; and coordinate the efforts of a design team to determine requirements and incorporate feedback. The selected candidate will become part of an established team of engineers working on exciting water distribution, sewershed study and rehabilitation, new sewer design, water/wastewater treatment, and pump station projects. The Colorado team supports both local and national projects. Employee is expected to provide quality engineering evaluation and design services efficiently to support the project team's objective and provide customer satisfaction on all projects.

Compensation is $45-65/hour, commensurate with experience, education, and certifications.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities
  • Design responsibilities and project management
  • Work closely with a design team to develop construction plans and specifications for various design projects
  • Perform design computations
  • Design projects in accordance with client specifications and guidelines
  • Develop construction cost estimates
  • Develop scopes of work, conceptual designs and preliminary engineering studies, conceive and implement field investigation programs, sub-contractor management, as well as coordination of design disciplines in final design projects
  • Construction phase engineering services
  • Flexibility to support time-critical design development and production to meet demanding schedules
  • Coordination with clients, contractors, outside consultants, government agencies and firm staff
  • Some business development activities such as proposal writing and project interviews

Required Skills

  • Candidates must have the ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, high-production office environment, build successful team relationships and maintain positive coworker interactions
  • Candidates must demonstrate familiarity with hydraulic designs, water and sewer design, analysis of constructability of designs, sewer rehabilitation, engineering economics, preparation of specifications and engineering report writing
  • Candidates must demonstrate organized practices, have excellent written and verbal communication skills, and have flexibility to support time-critical design development and production in order to meet demanding schedules
  • Candidates should have a firm grasp of general heavy construction principles
  • Strong computer skills are required: MS Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Familiarity with AutoCAD Civil 3D, Revit, ArcGIS, and MS Project are a plus


Required Experience

  • 4-10 Years' Experience
  • A bachelor's degree in Civil, Environmental, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering from an ABET accredited university
  • A working knowledge of Federal, State and local jurisdiction permitting regulations

Qualifications Preferred
  • Possess a Professional Engineering License in the state of Colorado or have the ability to acquire a license through reciprocity within six months of employment
  • A passing grade on the NCEES Fundamentals of Engineering exam is required
  • Experience working with local clients

Working Conditions

Work is performed within a general office environment 95% of the time. Work is generally sedentary in nature, but may require occasional standing and walking. Lighting and temperature are adequate and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc. within the office environment.

Field work is required on occasion where work may be conducted outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions. Some lifting (up to 25 lbs) may be required as needed.
