Water Resources Discipline Lead

Fairfax, Richmond, or Virginia Beach, VA

STV is seeking an accomplished Water Resources Discipline Lead to help shape and grow our water resources practice across Virginia and the Mid-Atlantic. This senior leadership role is ideal for a proven technical leader who brings deep expertise in drainage, stormwater management, hydrologic and hydraulic engineering, and public-sector infrastructure delivery.

In this role, you will combine technical leadership, client engagement, and team development to deliver high-quality solutions for transportation agencies, municipalities, rail and transit clients, and other public-sector partners.

This is an opportunity to influence practice strategy, elevate technical standards, mentor talented engineers, and contribute to meaningful infrastructure projects that improve mobility, resilience, and community outcomes.

What You'll Do
  • Set the technical direction for water resources services across Virginia, with a focus on quality, innovation, and consistent delivery.
  • Lead teams that support transportation, rail, transit, municipal, and other public-sector infrastructure programs.
  • Oversee hydrologic and hydraulic analysis, stormwater management, drainage design, floodplain studies, permitting, and related technical deliverables.
  • Build and strengthen trusted relationships with clients, regulatory agencies, and project stakeholders.
  • Partner with leadership on pursuits, proposals, client engagement, and strategic growth initiatives.
  • Guide project execution, staffing, QA/QC, and risk management to support successful delivery.
  • Coordinate permitting and regulatory reviews with Virginia DEQ, local jurisdictions, and environmental agencies.
  • Mentor and develop engineers, designers, and technical staff while fostering a collaborative, high-performance culture.
  • Represent STV in client meetings, technical reviews, project presentations, and stakeholder discussions.

Compensation Range:
$223,911.19 - $248,790.22
