  • Drive improvements to warehouse management systems impacting shipping and receiving operations.
  • Establish supply chain performance measurement systems for operational excellence.
  • Support Quality Management by ensuring prompt resolution of customer issues according to procedures.
  • Adhere to Environmental, Quality, and Safety Management System standards.

Full Job Description
POSITION PURPOSE/MISSION:

Direct all aspects of the facility shipping and receiving operations, including inbound receiving, coil storage, material handling, and shipping. Ensure a safe working environment for all employees. Develop methods to reduce cost and improve service. Manage all functions related to maintaining and continuously improving inventory accuracy. Develop the department's salary and hourly employees to keep pace with the evolving business needs to exceed customer expectations. Provide collaborative support to other Charter Steel businesses on safety, quality, receiving, coil storage, inventory accuracy, and shipping practices.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's Degree, Logistics Certification or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Five plus years' management experience.
  • Ability to manage and lead employees with strong organizational capabilities.
  • Skilled at staff team leadership and professional development.
  • Capacity to understand complex production operations and the impact to Logistics.
  • Excellent presentation skills with solid verbal and written communication capabilities.
  • Proficient in the advanced features of Microsoft Office products and warehouse management systems.
  • Willingness to travel as needed.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Logistics, Supply Chain or related degree.
  • Seven plus years' shipping and warehouse management experience.
  • Experience in industrial logistics management.
  • Experience with Oracle warehouse management systems.
  • Trained in Six Sigma methodology


MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITIES:
  • Ensure product quality is maintained and scrap is minimized while continually working on eliminating material handling issues that affect the customer's product.
  • Performance management and development of all supervisory and hourly employees through effective training and coaching.
  • Direct the scheduling of all employees to support all department operational requirements.
  • Make recommendations regarding hiring, terminating, performance evaluations, and succession planning.
  • Ensure that all operational processes policies and procedures are documented and that employees are trained accordingly.
  • Direct the Inbound Receiving operations accountable for the accurate receipt of all inbound freight (billets, melting supplies, etc.).
  • Direct all related Outbound Shipping operations to provide on time shipment of goods to customers.
  • Develop strategies to optimize coil storage capacity in supporting both short and long term business requirements.
  • Oversee all material handling equipment requirements planning, utilization, and performance.
  • Manage Inventory Systems to maintain and improve accuracy of inventory locations, movement, status, and disposition.
  • Responsible for the development and management of annual operating budget and monthly results reporting.
  • Direct all warehouse management systems performance and drive enhancement requests that provide improvements to the shipping and receiving functions.
  • Establish or monitor specific supply chain-based performance measurement systems.
  • Support the Quality Management system by assuring rapid response to all internal and external customer issues. If a corrective action is required, work with Quality Assurance to assure compliance with the documented procedure related to corrective actions.
  • Follow Environmental, Quality and Safety Management System procedures and requirements.

POSITION CHALLENGES:
  • Maintaining effective department performance while operating with dynamic inventory and shipment volumes.
  • Maintaining material flow while controlling logistics costs.
  • Developing the skill set in staff to stay current with the business direction and goals.
  • Making other departments aware of the service and cost attributes that impact logistics so that they are factored into the decision making process.
  • Motivating others to accept directional and process changes.
