Hanson Bridgett is seeking a Wage & Hour Statistician to support the firm's Labor & Employment practice. This individual will report to the Manager of Legal Staffing & Deployment, and will work closely with partners, associates and paralegals in the section. The Statistician will analyze payroll, timekeeping, human resources, and workforce data to identify patterns, evaluate potential wage and hour exposure, and provide clear, practical findings to attorneys and clients. The role requires strong statistical judgment, data-management expertise, and the ability to translate complex analyses for audiences with varied technical backgrounds.

This position is designed to support a flexible hybrid or remote work environment. Candidates residing in California and near one of Hanson Bridgett's office locations are preferred; however, remote candidates will also be considered. The successful candidate must be available to attend occasional in-person meetings, trainings, and other firm-related events as needed.

Essential Responsibilities

• Analyze payroll, timekeeping, scheduling, and human resources information systems data in connection with wage and hour matters and class actions.
• Clean, validate, reconcile, and organize large datasets, including resolving anomalies and non-standard identifiers across source systems.
• Design and maintain databases and repeatable analytical workflows for litigation and client projects.
• Use SQL, Python, R, SAS, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Access, or comparable tools to extract, transform, analyze, and report data.
• Develop programs, scripts, and macros that automate repetitive data and statistical tasks while maintaining quality controls.
• Compare timekeeping and payroll data to identify discrepancies between time worked and time paid.
• Analyze regular-rate, overtime, meal-period, employment-status, and potential class-member data as directed by the legal team.
• Provide clear and concise communications regarding the analysis processes and results - both written and oral - to attorneys and client contacts, with the ability to explain complex topics in an easy-to-understand manner.
• Prepare customized reports, exposure analyses, summaries, and visualizations for attorneys and clients.
• Partner with attorneys and project teams to define scope, prioritize deliverables, and manage multiple matters with shifting deadlines.

Required Qualifications

• Minimum of 3 years of data analytics experience working directly with wage and hour data, preferably within a legal or human resources context.
• Bachelor's degree in Statistics, Data Science, Mathematics, Economics, Computer Science, or a related quantitative field.
• Demonstrated experience cleaning, joining, and analyzing large or complex datasets.
• Proficiency with SQL and at least one statistical programming language, such as R or Python.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and experience designing clear analytical reports.
• Ability to independently assess project needs, identify data-quality issues, and develop defensible analytical approaches.
• Strong critical-thinking, problem-solving, organizational, written, and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple projects from start to finish in a deadline-driven professional environment.
• Communication skills required to translate intricate statistical curves into clean visuals that clients and lead litigation partners can easily digest.
• Direct experience with California Wage & Hour topics and data, timekeeping and payroll data.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master's degree in Statistics, Data Science, or a related field.
• Experience analyzing payroll, timekeeping, HRIS, or employment data.
• Experience supporting wage and hour litigation, investigations, consulting, damages analysis, or class-action matters.
• Experience with SAS, Stata, Tableau, Power BI, Microsoft Access, or Visual Basic for Applications.
• Experience extracting structured information from PDFs or other non-standard data formats.

Hanson Bridgett offers a competitive salary and benefits package. The annual salary for this role is anticipated to be in the range of $105,000 to $120,000 and represents the firm's good faith and reasonable estimate of possible compensation at the time of posting. Actual compensation is negotiable and will depend upon several factors, including but not limited to the candidate's years of experience, location, qualifications, and skill set.
