Full Job Description
Role Summary/Purpose:

The VP, Engineering Strategy establishes and executes operating models, governance, and leadership rhythms to improve the effectiveness and delivery outcomes of the Engineering organization. This role provides strategic and tactical support to the SVP, Engineering and the Engineering Senior Leadership Team.

This leader is also accountable for large program execution at scale. The role directly manages RTEs and ensures consistent planning, dependency management, delivery governance, and outcomes across the Engineering Agile Release Train and the Cloud Application Migration Release Train.

Essential Responsibilities:
  • Establish and own operating rhythm for Engineering leadership team to make the team more effective - including standups, enabling functional cycles for Governance, Finance, and HR and CIO Operations.
  • Portfolio / program leadership at scale: Provide leadership and oversight for the Engineering ART and Cloud Migration ART by setting/standardizing planning and delivery cadences, managing cross-team dependencies and risks, and ensuring predictable, transparent delivery against committed outcomes.
  • Create and deliver tools and resources to the leadership team for the purposes of decision making, strategic discussions, evaluating key performance indicators and driving accountability.
  • Provide direction for and manage key initiatives/ special projects (e.g. Engineering operational resiliency, Client SLA reporting and maturity, internal external communication, etc.).
  • Partner closely with Engineering leadership team, Finance, Communications, and HR.
  • Drive alignment and collaboration between Engineering, Tech and Ops, and other key cross functional stakeholders on key imperatives.
  • Lead initiatives to support our transformation efforts. Interface/partner with functional peers in establishing strategies to support the transformation agenda and strategy.
  • Collaborate with leadership team and HR to manage talent development and engagement.
  • Act as a trusted advisor to the SVP of Engineering and leadership team.
  • Lead other business-wide initiatives and special projects, as assigned.
  • Perform other duties and/or special projects as assigned


Qualifications/Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree or 8+ years of equivalent work experience in Technology or Financial Services field
  • Demonstrated success leading a team with proven track record of delivering results
  • Strategic thinker with keen business acumen and decision-making skills
  • Strong overall knowledge of SYF business
  • Management in a matrixed environment
  • Proven ability to accomplish goals with highly complex, time sensitive deliverables
  • Problem solver with experience defining, shaping, and influencing strategy
  • Ability to influence across the business at all levels in the organization
  • Skilled communicator (both written and verbal) at all levels inside and outside an organization

Grade/Level: 14

The salary range for this position is 170,000.00 - 290,000.00 USD Annual and is eligible for an annual bonus based on individual and company performance.

Actual compensation offered within the posted salary range will be based upon work experience, skill level or knowledge.

Salaries are adjusted according to market in CA, NY Metro and Seattle.

You will be required to commute to your nearest Hub (either virtual or physical) for in-person engagement activities such as regular business or team meetings, training and culture events.

Eligibility Requirements:
  • You must be 18 years or older
  • You must have a high school diploma or equivalent
  • You must be willing to take a drug test, submit to a background investigation and submit fingerprints as part of the onboarding process
  • You must be able to satisfy the requirements of Section 19 of the Federal Deposit Insurance Act.
  • New hires (Level 4-7) must have 9 months of continuous service with the company before they are eligible to post on other roles. Once this new hire time in position requirement is met, the associate will have a minimum 6 months' time in position before they can post for future non-exempt roles. Employees, level 8 or greater, must have at least 18 months' time in position before they can post. All internal employees must consistently meet performance expectations and have approval from your manager to post (or the approval of your manager and HR if you don't meet the time in position or performance expectations).
