What You'll Do:The Business Development Officer ("BDO") is responsible for originating new middle market banking relationships throughout Pennsylvania and New Jersey by identifying, developing, and converting prospective clients into Customers Bank relationships. This role is a dedicated business development position focused on acquiring new commercial clients and partnering with Relationship Managers, Treasury Management, and Product Specialists to deliver comprehensive banking solutions.
The ideal candidate is a highly connected commercial banker with an established network of business owners, CEOs, CFOs, attorneys, accountants, investment bankers, and other centers of influence within the Pennsylvania and New Jersey middle market space. Success in this role is measured by consistently generating profitable new loan, deposit, treasury management, and fee income opportunities while expanding Customers Bank's market presence.
Primary Responsibilities- Develop and execute a proactive business development strategy targeting privately held middle market companies throughout Pennsylvania and New Jersey.
- Identify, qualify, and cultivate new client relationships through referrals, networking, strategic calling efforts, industry events, and centers of influence.
- Build trusted advisor relationships with business owners, executive management teams, and professional service firms.
- Conduct comprehensive discovery conversations to understand each prospect's capital structure, financing requirements, treasury management needs, deposit opportunities, and strategic objectives.
- Partner with Relationship Managers and Product Specialists to develop customized commercial banking solutions that deliver long-term value to clients.
- Coordinate internal resources to efficiently onboard new relationships and ensure a seamless client experience.
- Maintain an active pipeline of qualified opportunities and consistently progress prospects through the sales process.
- Represent Customers Bank within the marketplace by participating in community, industry, and professional organizations that enhance the Bank's visibility and reputation.
- Monitor market conditions, competitive activity, and emerging industry trends to identify opportunities for strategic growth.
- Collaborate closely with Credit, Treasury Management, Private Banking, Capital Markets, Equipment Finance, SBA, and other specialty banking teams to maximize share of wallet across client relationships.
What Do You Need?- Bachelor's degree or equivalent and 15+ years of related work experience
- Comprehensive knowledge of commercial banking and treasury products, services and completion of formal credit training.
- Lead by example in cultivating a client first, solutions-oriented culture.
- Strong C&I calling background.
- Experience building and maintaining internal and external partnerships.
- Ability to source new prospect and referral source relationships.
- Ability to review and analyze financial information.
- Excellent written and oral communications.
Technology Skills:- Ability to work with the Microsoft Suite and learn/work with other Customers Bank's applications.
- Familiarity with AI and automation tools that support productivity, workflow efficiency, and client engagement.
