Full Job Description
We're seeking a passionate and strategic Volunteer & Supporter Engagement Manager to lead volunteer and supporter engagement efforts across the Planned Parenthood of the Pacific Southwest region. In this role, you will oversee the full volunteer lifecycle including recruitment, vetting, onboarding, training, placement, and supervision, while building and mobilizing a strong network of supporters who serve as ambassadors for social change.

The Volunteer & Supporter Engagement Manager will lead community outreach efforts throughout San Diego County, strengthen volunteer recruitment and engagement in Riverside County, and provide volunteer management support for the C4 volunteer program. This position is responsible for operationalizing supporter engagement strategies that increase awareness, advocacy, and community involvement around priority issues across our region.

The ideal candidate is a relationship-driven leader who excels at engaging diverse stakeholders, cultivating meaningful volunteer experiences, and building sustainable supporter networks. They are highly organized, collaborative, and skilled at managing volunteer programs, community outreach initiatives, and database systems while working cross-functionally to advance mission-driven goals.

In this role, you'll get to:

  • Manage all aspects of volunteer recruitment, vetting and onboarding including reviewing and screening applications, conducting telephone pre-screens, coordinating onboarding processes, and distributing orientation materials including new volunteer swag.
  • In collaboration with the Director of Supporter Engagement, plan, schedule, and facilitate volunteer orientations and trainings both in-person and virtually.
  • Communicate regularly with volunteer site supervisors to collect volunteer timesheets and ensure that hours are recorded.
  • Assist in the development of new volunteer roles as needed (i.e. new administrative volunteer positions, department volunteers, etc.)
  • Develop and maintain contacts with educational institutions, community groups and other sources of volunteer applicants.
  • Provide ongoing coaching and support to volunteer site supervisors in volunteer management and recognition practices, while managing the planning and execution of agency-wide volunteer appreciation events and recognition efforts.
  • Oversee and manage volunteer nights and administrative shifts, ensuring effective coordination with administrative departments; leading logistics planning including space reservations, refreshments, notifying security staff; and communicating shift details and expectations to volunteers to support smooth and well-organized operations.
  • Oversee and maintain strong functional expertise in the VolunteerHub volunteer management system, including data management, reporting, and troubleshooting database issues.
  • Develop database structures and features according to organizational/department needs.
  • Create staff profiles and train new staff on volunteer database functionalities.
  • Maintain written procedures and job aids on database functionality.
  • Maintain volunteer records including updating current volunteer information, documenting terminated volunteers, entering volunteer hours, scanning volunteer forms, and keeping notes in volunteer profiles.
  • Provide reports to Director of Volunteer & Supporter Engagement and other staff as needed for monthly, quarterly, and annual reports and other reporting requirements.
  • Coordinate community outreach events by collaborating with External Affairs Operations staff to secure event opportunities, recruit and schedule volunteers, assemble and manage tabling supplies at the Holliday Family Administration Center, coordinate and track supply pick-up and return, communicate event logistics, and ensure accurate entry of volunteer and event data in departmental databases for reporting.
  • Develop, assess and conduct trainings for community outreach volunteers, ensuring agency policies are complied with.
  • Strengthen volunteer recruitment and engagement in Riverside by working collaboratively with Community Education & Engagement staff to support outreach efforts, grow volunteer participation, and foster meaningful, mission-driven involvement.
  • Manage and implement supporter engagement opportunities across San Diego, Riverside and Imperial counties by executing the supporter engagement work plan; developing and producing engagement content; and creating tools and resources such as house party toolkits, giveaways, book clubs, and other supporter-facing initiatives.
  • Develop system for providing materials for house parties, condom crawls, movie screenings, book clubs, etc. and coordinating speaker requests.
  • Work with the Marketing department to create and update content and layout for affiliate website and intranet for supporter engagement options to get involved.
  • Research and create a calendar based on awareness campaign initiatives for community-building events for supporters to connect and get educated.
  • Research and coordinate regional visibility events and provide support to departments overseeing agency's contingents in San Diego, Riverside and Imperial counties.
  • Assist the public affairs staff in vetting new c4 Action Fund volunteers including conducting internet searches, sending and collecting new volunteer forms and other onboarding requirements.
  • In collaboration with the Public Affairs staff, develop and execute in-person and virtual events including content creation, participant recruitment, platform coordination, event logistics, assessing technology needs, presenting content.
  • Act as a resource for activists' supervisors and department heads by providing ongoing coaching in the areas of volunteer management, recognition, etc.

$83,600 - $92,400 a year
