DescriptionThe Renaissance School of Medicine (RSOM) at Stony Brook University is recruiting a Vice Dean of Inclusive Excellence. This role will lead the implementation of the RSOM's strategic plan on inclusive excellence, centralize and coordinate RSOM initiatives on inclusive excellence, train and develop RSOM faculty, staff and learners to meet goals in inclusive excellence, and cultivate external partnerships to support inclusive excellence.
The selected candidate will have a faculty appointment in a RSOM department based on their area of expertise.
Responsibilities:1. Lead Implementation of the RSOM's Strategic Plan on Inclusive Excellence- Lead efforts under the RSOM's five-year strategic plan to infuse inclusive excellence into the School's research, clinical and educational missions
- Promote the creation of a nurturing environment where all faculty, staff and learners can thrive, learn, conduct impactful research, and deliver outstanding patient care
- Monitor progress on the strategic plan and make adjustments as necessary to ensure success
- Support the well-being of all members of the RSOM community and promote a culture of respect
- Contribute to research and scholarship in inclusive excellence and health equity
2. Centralize and Coordinate RSOM Initiatives on Inclusive Excellence - Centralize and enhance the visibility of work being done at RSOM to promote inclusive excellence and health equity.
- Coordinate pathway and outreach programs to promote inclusive excellence
- Develop methods and metrics to assess RSOM climate and the effectiveness of programs and initiatives
- Strengthen holistic admissions and recruitment practices
- Lead committees charged with promoting inclusive excellence in undergraduate and graduate medical education and faculty affairs
- Develop RSOM policies and procedures that promote inclusive excellence
- Supervise administrative staff in overseeing the Office of Inclusive Excellence
3. Train and Develop RSOM Faculty, Staff and Learners to Meet Goals in Inclusive Excellence- Ensure that medical school curricula integrate content on health equity and social determinants of health
- Expand mentorship programs for students
- Support student-led programs and organizations that foster inclusive excellence and health equity
- Promote faculty development in inclusive teaching
4. Cultivate External Partnerships to Support Inclusive Excellence - Represent the RSOM in University and health system initiatives that impact inclusive excellence
- Work closely with the Chief Health Equity Officer and the Associate Dean for Admissions to advance initiatives on inclusive excellence and health equity
- Cultivate relationships with SUNY, AAMC, and other external organizations to promote inclusive excellence
- Partner with advancement and external agencies to obtain resources for training an inclusive workforce and conducting research on health equity
QualificationsRequired Qualifications:
- M.D. (or equivalent medical degree) and/or Ph.D. in a relevant field of study. Ability to attain NYS License if MD and clinically active.
- A record of outstanding accomplishment in a discipline relevant to the academic mission of the Renaissance School of Medicine.
- Credentials and achievements that merit appointment as a professor or associate professor in the School of Medicine.
- Demonstrated experience and commitment to inclusive excellence and reducing health disparities.
- An in-depth understanding of issues and challenges facing a variety of student, faculty, staff, and community populations.
- Excellent leadership and communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in leading programs on inclusive excellence and/or health equity at the national level.
- Proven track record of leading with a data-informed approach and utilizing data to achieve successful outcomes.
- Experience leading culture change to support inclusive excellence.
