Full Job Description
As a Veterinary Dermatology Consultant, you'll provide expert dermatology consultations to veterinary professionals across the United States and Canada, helping customers select appropriate diagnostic tests, interpret laboratory results, and evaluate treatment options. Our strong preference is for a full-time team member; however, we may consider part-time candidates with the right experience, expertise, and availability. This is a fully remote opportunity for a board-certified veterinary dermatologist. We will also consider residency-trained or practice-limited-to dermatology practitioners, who would join at a different level with a corresponding salary range.

The IDEXX Medical Consulting team supports veterinarians by providing clinical expertise that helps improve patient outcomes and maximize the value of diagnostic testing. As part of this collaborative team, you'll use your dermatology expertise to help veterinary professionals make informed decisions and deliver exceptional care to their patients.

In this role:
  • You'll provide telephone consultations for canine, feline, and equine dermatology cases.
  • You'll advise veterinarians on diagnostic test selection, sample collection, and interpretation of results related to dermatologic diseases.
  • You'll support customers with clinical interpretation of serum allergy testing, skin and ear cultures, skin biopsies, and dermatopathology findings.
  • You'll deliver timely, high-quality consultations while meeting caseload and turnaround expectations.
  • You'll remain accessible during consultation service hours and provide responsive support to veterinary peers.
  • You'll maintain current knowledge of veterinary dermatology literature and emerging clinical best practices.
  • You'll participate in Medical Consulting team meetings, continuing education opportunities, and organizational initiatives.
  • If applicable, you'll maintain active ACVD Diplomate status.
  • You will maintain applicable state or provincial veterinary licensure.
  • You'll document consultation details accurately within the customer relationship management system.
  • You'll contribute to the ongoing success and growth of IDEXX Medical Consulting Services by delivering an exceptional customer experience.

Why this role matters:

Veterinarians rely on accurate diagnostics and trusted specialty expertise to deliver the best possible patient care. In this role, you'll extend your impact far beyond individual cases by supporting veterinary professionals across North America. Your expertise will help customers make confident clinical decisions, improve outcomes for animals, and strengthen the value that IDEXX diagnostic solutions bring to veterinary practices.

What you need to succeed:
  • DVM or VMD degree with a current veterinary license in good standing.
  • Board certification through the American College of Veterinary Dermatology (ACVD).
  • Residency-trained or practice-limited-to dermatology practitioners with substantial clinical experience will also be considered for a role at a different level.
  • Strong clinical expertise in veterinary dermatology and management of dermatologic diseases in dogs, cats, and horses.
  • We are primarily seeking a full-time Dermatology Consultant and believe that schedule best supports the needs of our customers and team. We may also consider part-time candidates who can provide consistent availability during consultation service hours.
  • Consultation service hours are Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Eastern Time. Flexibility within these service hours is expected.
  • Experience interpreting laboratory results and applying diagnostic information to patient care decisions.
  • Excellent verbal communication and consultation skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple cases while meeting service level and turnaround expectations in a remote environment.
  • Fluency in English.
  • Additional language skills are a plus.

What you can expect from us:
  • Starting salary:
    • Board-certified (ACVD): $140,000 - $150,000 / year
    • Board-eligible or practice-limited-to dermatology: $110,000] - $120,000 / year
    • Final level and salary are determined by credentials, experience, and internal equity.
  • Opportunity for annual cash bonus
  • Health / Dental / Vision benefits starting day one
  • 5% matching 401k and employee stock purchase plan
  • Paid time off and continuing education allowance
  • Licensure and professional dues support
  • Additional benefits including pet insurance, mental health resources, volunteer paid days off, and foundation donation matching
