POSITION SUMMARY:

The Vehicle Maintenance Supervisor leads and oversees the daily operations of Arapahoe Basin's vehicle maintenance shop and crew. In this role, you will supervise a team of mechanics, manage shop workflow, and perform hands-on maintenance and diagnostics on our diverse fleet, including state-of-the-art snowcats, heavy equipment, snowmobiles, and on-road vehicles.

WAGE:

The base hourly pay range below represents the low and high ends of Arapahoe Basin's hourly pay range for this position. Actual pay will vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors, including but not limited to experience, education, training, location, merit system, quantity or quality of production, and responsibilities. The range listed is just one component of Arapahoe Basin's total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include many region-specific benefits.

Hourly pay range: $40.46 - $56.64/hour

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Effectively manage the service, maintenance, and repair of the entire vehicle fleet. Supervise and assign the daily workflow for all vehicle maintenance mechanics.


  • Work directly with the Director of Resort Maintenance and VP of Mountain Operations to establish, track, and execute workflow priorities.


  • Order parts efficiently, strategically evaluating alternative vendors, delivery timelines, and current parts inventory to remain cost-effective.


  • Perform advanced diagnostics, troubleshooting, and repairs on diesel engines (including utilizing Caterpillar ET and SisWeb), complex electrical systems, and hydraulic/hydrostatic systems (including adjusting and repairing hydraulic pumps).


  • Utilize advanced fabrication skills (including TIG/aluminum welding, structural welding, and custom machine part fabrication) as needed.


  • Ensure the vehicle fleet is in safe and proper working condition by establishing and enforcing regular maintenance schedules.


  • Direct the company's Hazardous Materials Handling Procedures and Guidelines; educate shop staff on these topics. Meet and maintain all OSHA and EPA standards for fuel, safety, and hazardous waste storage.


  • Ensure all completed work orders, machine issues, repairs, and parts usages are properly documented on a daily basis using computers and software (including Microsoft Excel).


  • Ensure all weekly safety topics are completed.


  • Stay up-to-date on A-Basin's grooming methods and trail network. Work closely with other resort departments to support operational needs.


  • Act as a steward of the company culture and values by demonstrating best practices and mindsets to facilitate a culture of accountable, high-performing and engaged employees.


  • Partner with leaders at A-Basin to embed diversity, equity, and inclusion competency and practices across teams to develop and support a respectful workplace.


  • Train and encourage employees to actively participate in sustainability initiatives and support them in maintaining sustainable practices.


  • Perform other duties as assigned


REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Previous experience in automotive or heavy equipment repair


  • Previous experience working in a shop or field-service environment


  • Ability to demonstrate fundamental knowledge of mechanical maintenance on various types of machinery


  • Ability to maintain a high level of safety consciousness


  • Strong mechanical problem-solving skills


  • Ability to lead a team and ensure all projects are completed in a timely manner


  • Must be available weekends and holidays, occasional nights


  • This position requires successful completion of a Motor Vehicle Record background check


EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent. Technical degree or certifications in heavy equipment/diesel mechanics is highly desirable.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to withstand high altitude conditions at all times


  • Ability to use full range of body motion and lift up to 75 lbs.


  • Ability to bend, twist, kneel, pull, and push


  • Ability to stand, kneel, squat, and lay under machines throughout a 10-hour shift


  • Ability to crawl under and/or hoist oneself on top of machinery


  • Ability to visually and audibly inspect machinery for irregularities

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • The position works mainly indoors in the Vehicle Maintenance Shop. Some work outside in snowy, icy, and inclement weather is required. Most work time is spent moving around on one's feet or in other potentially strenuous positions.
