Full Job Description
The VDC Designer III acts as the project lead and primary point of contact for VDC Teams on assigned projects while
overseeing all relative VDC activities required to support construction and/or fabrication stakeholders on those projects.
Should expect placement on multiple projects, at times, while also supporting multiple stakeholders within the
organization. Will be required to collaborate with entities both inside and outside of the organization, including, but not
limited to, Architects, Engineers, Project Manager, Field Leadership, and Fabrication Leadership. Some travel to
construction projects will be required at times. Reports to VDC Trade Manager / VDC PM.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Creates trade specific virtual models utilizing Autodesk Fabrication + Revit software platform during the pre
construction, construction, and/or post-construction phases of commercial Mechanical Piping Systems.
• Collaborates with internal and external stakeholders during the BIM Coordination phase of the VDC workflow.
• Creates detailed fabrication and/or construction drawings to support relative pre-fabrication activities within a
manufacturing environment or relative production activities on commercial construction projects.
• Makes creative and innovative solutions to help save time and money for our construction teams. Utilizes their
knowledge, experience, and expertise to re-design systems so they are optimized for speed of installation and
cost of material.
• Is empowered to discover and implement the best routing methods for certain systems, while keeping things
within approved engineering loads (DFU's, FPM, Static Pressure, etc.).
• Provides constructability review of construction documents to ensure compliance with organization's means and
methods.
• Acts as primary point of contact for VDC Teams on assigned projects, coordinating with VDC Trade Manager/PM,
Field Leadership, and Fabrication Leadership to ensure alignment of VDC schedules with project construction
schedules.
• Coordinates VDC scope of work on assigned projects with VDC Trade Leader to determine scheduling and
resourcing of VDC employees.
• Monitors work in progress on assigned projects to ensure schedules and target budgets are achieved.
• Provides guidance and mentorship with QA/QC for VDC Designer 1 and 2 positions that are assisting on the same
projects.
• Generates, and/or assists in generating, reports for client feedback such as Request for Information (RFI) or
Request for Pricing (RFP) during any phase of the construction project.
• Required to directly collaborate with external stakeholders such as Building Owners, General Contractors,
Architects, Engineers, and/or Vendors.
• May assist pre-construction stakeholders in development of estimating models for project pursuits.
• Performs other duties as required.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education:
High school diploma or GED is required.
Associates's degree in construction management, construction engineering, construction science, computer science,
information technology, drafting, design technology or another relative field is preferred.

  • Autodesk Certified User Revit is preferred
  • Autodesk Certified User AutoCAD is preferred
  • Certification in Drafting Technology is preferred


Minimum experience preferred of the position

  • A Combined experience of at least 10 years experience consisting of at least 5 of those years being in VDC Trade
    experience is required. (5yrs Field experience or 5yrs Revit Specialist + 5yrs VDC Trade Experience would qualify)
  • 10 years of VDC related experience with Fabrication + Revit is required. (Field experience can count twards 5 of these
    years)
  • 1 years of experience in Fabrication + AutoCAD is Preferred.


Minimum knowledge, skills and abilities preferred of the position

  • Must have a high level of knowledge relative to the installation of Mechanical Piping with a strong awareness of HVAC
    and Plumbing systems.
  • Must have in depth knowledge of Mechanical Piping design principles.
  • Must be able to read and interpret architectural, structural, mechanical, and plumbing drawings/blueprints.
  • Proficient in current Autodesk software solutions such as AutoCAD, Revit, and Navisworks.
  • Position may require detailed knowledge of building, mechanical, and plumbing codes, and industry standards such as
    SMACNA, ASME, ANSI, ASTM, ASI, NFPA 99, IPC, etc, as they apply to each discipline and/or trade.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products, including, but not limited to, Excel, Word, Power Point, and Microsoft
    Teams.
  • Must be fully sufficient in all aspects of VDC and can be put on a project with little to no assistance and be fully
    successful.
  • Must possess excellent organizational and strong leadership skills.
  • Ability to effectively plan, organize, delegate, and control the work process.


Must be able to perform site surveys and/or field measurements of work as needed to support VDC activities.

WORKING CONDITIONS
Work performed in an open office / collaborative environment. Work week will be a balance of days in the Polk office
and days working remote from home. Will be required to visit construction worksite as business needs arise.
