Your Role on the Team

Position Summary:
Incumbent assists in the management of the mechanical circulatory support (MCS) program. Participates in the clinical management of pre and post ventricular assist device (VAD) implant patients in collaboration with the physicians and coordinates the clinical evaluation of potential MCS candidates. Provides patient care and consultation during clinic visits, procedures, hospital admission visits, discharge and follow up in the inpatient and outpatient setting. Is a resource for nursing and hospital staff on patient care, maintaining MCS equipment and as the devise expert. Responsible for initial and annual training of MCS education for nursing staff and interdisciplinary team, as well as for patients and their caregivers. Oversees patient care in the mechanical circulatory program. Facilitates the management of the mechanical circulatory patient population to promote efficient, cost effective, quality care to both the patient and the institution. Ensures compliance with state, federal, and organizational guidelines and other regulatory agencies.

What It Takes to be Successful

Required Qualifications:
  • Prior ICU Nurse experience
  • Must possess the skill, knowledge and ability essential to the successful performance of assigned duties
  • Must demonstrate customer service skills appropriate to the job
  • Must be able to participate in on call rotation and work occasional weekends & evenings
  • Minimum tone (1) year of experience in acute care with VAD/MCS
  • Minimum 2 years recent clinical experience
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
  • Current CA RN license
  • Current ACLS certification
  • Basic Life Support Certification from AHA
  • BSN Degree
  • Ability to maintain a work pace appropriate to the workload

  • Preferred Qualifications:
  • Working knowledge of cardiothoracic surgery patient care needs
  • Minimum one (1) year of experience as a VAD coordinator
  • Bilingual in English/Spanish or English/Vietnamese (certain clinics may require this qualification)
