Full Job Description
POSITION OVERVIEW:

As the Senior HVAC Project Manager, you will be responsible for leading complex commercial mechanical projects from pre-construction through closeout. This senior-level role requires deep technical HVAC knowledge, strong financial discipline, advanced leadership skills, and the ability to guide field teams, subcontractors, vendors, engineers, general contractors, customers, and internal stakeholders to deliver large or strategically important projects safely, on schedule, within budget, and to USA Mechanical's quality standards.

The ideal candidate is an experienced mechanical construction leader who can manage multiple priorities, anticipate project risks, mentor team members, strengthen customer relationships, and drive accountability across estimating, scheduling, procurement, change management, billing, forecasting, and project profitability. This position will be based in East Granby, CT and will support projects throughout the company's service area.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Lead complex commercial HVAC and mechanical projects from turnover through final completion, commissioning support, and closeout.
  • Provide senior-level oversight of project drawings, specifications, scopes of work, submittals, schedules, budgets, contracts, and risk exposure.
  • Develop project execution strategies, manpower plans, procurement approaches, and schedule recovery plans as needed.
  • Coordinate labor, materials, equipment, subcontractors, vendors, engineers, general contractors, and customers to keep projects aligned and moving forward.
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for key customers, general contractors, consultants, and internal leadership on assigned projects.
  • Monitor job progress, labor productivity, cost performance, safety, quality, cash flow, billing status, and forecasted profitability.
  • Identify and resolve complex field, design, scheduling, procurement, and coordination issues before they impact project outcomes.
  • Prepare, review, negotiate, and track RFIs, submittals, change orders, purchase orders, subcontractor scopes, meeting notes, and project correspondence.
  • Lead project financial reviews, cost-to-complete updates, billing coordination, change-order strategy, and margin protection efforts.
  • Mentor project coordinators, assistant project managers, field supervisors, and junior project managers as needed.
  • Lead project meetings and ensure clear ownership, follow-up, documentation, and accountability for open items and deadlines.
  • Ensure projects are completed in compliance with applicable codes, contract requirements, company policies, safety procedures, and USA Mechanical standards.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Minimum of 5-10 years of project management experience in commercial HVAC, mechanical contracting, or a related construction field preferred.
  • Demonstrated success managing large, complex, or multi-phase commercial mechanical projects.
  • Strong technical understanding of commercial HVAC systems, mechanical drawings, specifications, controls coordination, construction sequencing, and commissioning support.
  • Proven ability to manage project budgets, labor productivity, change orders, cost forecasting, billing coordination, and profitability.
  • Experience leading project teams, coordinating field labor, mentoring less-experienced team members, and managing subcontractors and vendors.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, specifications, contracts, submittals, schedules, change documents, and project financial reports.
  • Strong customer-facing communication skills with the ability to build trust, resolve issues, and represent the company professionally.
  • Advanced organizational, leadership, negotiation, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office; experience with project management, estimating, scheduling, or construction accounting software is strongly preferred.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel to job sites as needed.

PHYSICAL AND WORK REQUIREMENTS:
  • Ability to visit active construction sites and service locations as required.
  • Must be able to walk job sites, climb stairs or ladders when necessary, and comply with all site-specific safety requirements.
  • Occasional early morning, evening, or off-hour availability may be required based on project needs.
