What you'll do...
Role summary:
The (USA) Director, Automation Engineering leads the strategic development and implementation of automation technologies to enhance supply chain efficiency. This role leverages advanced data analysis and engineering expertise to design, integrate, and optimize automated systems, ensuring alignment with business objectives. The director collaborates cross-functionally to influence decision-making, drive continuous improvement, and manage complex projects. With a focus on operational excellence and financial analysis, this position guides teams in delivering innovative automation solutions that support Walmart's long-term growth and performance goals.
About the team:

The Fulfillment Automation Design team defines how Walmart's next generation of fulfillment centers should work. We combine automation engineering, industrial engineering, analytics, and operations expertise to develop facility concepts, automation architectures, material flow strategies, capacity models, and design standards. Using simulation, data, and engineering analysis, the team evaluates tradeoffs, validates performance, and prepares concepts for detailed design and execution. Our work creates scalable, repeatable fulfillment solutions that improve capacity, speed, cost, resilience, and operational simplicity across Walmart's network.
What you'll do:
  • Lead concept development, system design, detailed engineering, and investment recommendations for next-generation fulfillment automation.
  • Translate business, capacity, and operational requirements into scalable facility concepts, automation architectures, material flows, and design standards.
  • Use data, simulation, and financial analysis to evaluate tradeoffs, validate performance, and guide technology and investment decisions.
  • Lead cross-functional design efforts with Operations, Network Design, Real Estate, Construction, Product, Finance, and automation partners.
  • Build engineering capability, strengthen design standards, and ensure concepts transition effectively into execution and deployment.

  • Proven ability to leverage data analysis and advanced analytics to influence strategic decisions and optimize automation performance.
  • Strong project management skills, including risk identification, contingency planning, and cross-functional collaboration.
  • Demonstrated business acumen with expertise in developing strategic roadmaps aligned to business objectives and financial analysis.
  • Effective communication and influencing skills to present complex information clearly and drive stakeholder engagement.
  • Experience mentoring teams and fostering continuous improvement through operational excellence and talent development.

The annual salary range for this position is $130,000.00 - $260,000.00

Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses.
