Job Description
The Director of Underwriting Transformation is responsible for leading the strategic evolution and modernization of the underwriting organization. This role partners closely with the Head of Equipment Breakdown and senior business leaders to identify, prioritize, and execute initiatives that improve underwriting effectiveness, operational efficiency, customer experience, and profitable growth.
The Director serves as a catalyst for organizational change, driving transformation across people, processes, technology, data, and operating models. This role works across underwriting, operations, product, technology, analytics, and distribution functions to develop future-state capabilities and ensure the underwriting organization remains competitive, scalable, and aligned with business objectives.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Insurance, Risk Management, or related field.
- 8-12+ years of experience in insurance, underwriting, operations, strategy, consulting, or related leadership roles.
- Demonstrated success leading complex cross-functional initiatives and organizational improvement efforts.
- Experience in strategic planning, process optimization, organizational design, and performance management.
- Preferred MBA or advanced degree in Business, Finance, Insurance, or related discipline.
- Preferred Lean Six Sigma, PMP, or comparable process improvement certification.
- Experience within commercial insurance, employee benefits, specialty insurance, or middle-market organizations.
Knowledge and Skills
- Use a data and analytical framework to establish expertise in underwriting operations, governance, and organizational effectiveness.
- Ability to develop and interpret performance metrics, dashboards, and business insights.
- Exceptional communication, presentation, and executive influence skills.
- Experience leading change management and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Knowledge of underwriting technology platforms, workflow automation, analytics, and AI-enabled underwriting solutions.
- Ability to build strong partnerships and collaborate effectively across multiple business functions.
- Proven ability to influence senior leaders and drive enterprise-wide change.
- Strong strategic planning and business acumen.
