Qualifications

Full Job Description
YOUR NEXT CHALLENGE:

Reporting to the Engineering Superintendent, you will be part of the Engineering Department - Underground Operations. You will be responsible for geotechnical data collection, design, planning, quality control, and education. You will liaise between Engineering, Geology and Underground Mine Operations departments regarding all production-related activities to support the safe development of the mine. You will also ensure that the goals and objectives are achieved, while promoting and respecting Agnico Eagle's culture & Code of conduct, maintaining a high Health & Safety standard, all in respect of the environment, the work procedures in place & the industry's good practices.

  • Develop and maintain the Underground Ground Control Management Plan;


  • Perform industry standard development and production support design;


  • Prepare and review engineering prints for execution of ground support installation.;


  • Establish an appropriate quality control program to ensure ground support is being installed as designed and oversee its execution;


  • Provide awareness and education of ground control-related items to the workforce, including annual hazard awareness training;


  • Mentor Mine Technicians performing testing, audits and assessments of geotechnical-related items;


  • Develop, implement and maintain any required monitoring systems;


  • Collaborate with the Short Range Planning Engineer to ensure that geotechnical work is scheduled;


  • Establish an appropriate data collection program to support geotechnical design, including collaboration with Geology to maximize and optimize data collection;


  • Prepare Standard Operating Procedures for Geotechnical tasks as part of business readiness;


  • Review mine designs (development prints, etc) to ensure compliance with geotechnical requirements;


  • Regularly assess stope stability performance, perform back analysis of ELOS and advise on opportunities to maximize stope recovery and minimize dilution;


  • Liaise with the corporate Geotechnical team to ensure the mine's geotechnical designs and systems align with corporate expectations;


  • Promote innovation and continuous improvement initiatives in safety and productivity;


  • Other tasks as required by the Engineering Superintendent to support.


WHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEED

  • Bachelor's degree in Geotechnical Engineering, or equivalent;


  • 5 years of experience in underground mine engineering with a minimum of 3 years working in ground control;


  • Eligibility for Professional Engineering designation in the Province of Ontario;


  • Strong working knowledge of all Microsoft Office software especially Outlook, Excel, Word & PowerPoint;


  • Knowledge of Deswik CAD required;


  • Knowledge of RocScience Software considered an asset;


  • Must be able to work independently and within a team structure;


  • Ability to effectively prioritize job duties and work in a fast-paced environment;


  • Experience working in a multicultural environment;


  • Excellent interpersonal skills, strong work ethic and a positive attitude;


  • Strong ability to effectively communicate in English (Oral and written).


Your Work Schedule

  • Schedule: 4/3 schedule, at our Detour Lake mine site. Consideration will be given for a 7/7 work schedule to the right candidate.


  • Accommodations and meals are provided on site at no cost to the employee. Agnico Eagle provides transportation to and from the mine site and will accommodate to cover other travelling expenses according to your location of residence in Canada.
