Full Job Description
UI/UX Researcher

We are seeking a UI/UX Researcher to support the Machine Display and Machine Experience teams. This person will apply human-computer interaction expertise and user research best practices to guide the concept, prototyping, testing, and documentation of preferred user interfaces. The UI/UX Researcher will identify where research and testing can inform or improve concepts, partner with designers, engineers, strategists, and management to communicate the vision and path forward, and document the preferred experience through visual artifacts and formal handoff.

Key Responsibilities
  • Translate research and testing findings into actionable, prioritized recommendations for UI designs.
  • Clarify user, customer, and business needs, and translate them into concepts for compelling interactions and user experience.
  • Facilitate quantitative and qualitative research using sound research methodologies.
  • Integrate user research into product designs and design practices.
  • Communicate prototype requirements to designers to support testing and iteration.
  • Document key goals, themes, elements, and behaviors for implementation by downstream UI teams.
  • Create shareable UX artifacts based on research and team activities, such as journey maps, storyboards, and user flows.
  • Document the overall UX strategy - including UI, physical attributes, and guiding principles - for use across downstream partners.
  • Prioritize the research needs and backlog based on the product roadmap.


Team & Collaboration

This role sits within a team of 13 members supporting a variety of workstreams, alongside 5 integrated matrix-related members. The UI/UX Researcher will regularly interact with designers, product owners, engineers, analytics, software, hardware, and other UX teams, making strong stakeholder management essential to success.

Work Environment

This is a hybrid position based in Chillicothe, IL, requiring 2-3 days per week onsite. Candidates must be local to the area and able to transition to full-time onsite work if required.

Requirements

Required Qualifications
  • 5+ years of experience in UX research and applied knowledge of user experience best practices, preferably within a corporate or B2B environment.
  • B.S. or higher in Human Computer Interaction, Human Factors, Psychology, or a related UX field, or 7+ years of relevant experience in lieu of a degree.
  • Demonstrated empathy through the organization and synthesis of stakeholder and user sentiment, with an openness to listen and learn from opportunities to understand user needs.
  • Adaptive thinking with the ability to pivot quickly as requirements and product understanding evolve, treating challenges as learning opportunities while confidently making independent decisions.
  • Thorough understanding of UI best practices, UI design, and essential graphic design theory.
  • Proven ability to produce results both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Proficiency with UI layout, spec, and prototyping tools.
  • Experience managing multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
  • Experience with mixed-method HMI research.
  • A portfolio demonstrating expertise and the ability to clearly articulate your process.
  • Outstanding communication, organization, time management, and interpersonal skills.
  • Exceptional data storytelling capability.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Project management experience.
  • Experience in automotive or other adjacent industries.
