Position Overview

The Electrical Traveling Superintendent is responsible for leading the field execution of large-scale commercial electrical projects. This role oversees daily jobsite operations, field personnel, safety, schedule performance, installation quality, and coordination with the General Contractor, subcontractors, inspectors, and other trades.

Working closely with the Project Manager, the Electrical Superintendent manages labor and material needs, resolves field issues, supports budget and schedule objectives, and ensures electrical work is completed safely, on time, and in accordance with project specifications, applicable codes, and client requirements. This position requires extensive national travel and the ability to lead crews in fast-paced construction environments. Jobsite locations vary based on project needs but are primarily located throughout the Southeast.

Key Responsibilities

  • Direct daily electrical field operations, assign work, coordinate crews, and ensure personnel have the tools, materials, equipment, and information needed to perform safely and efficiently
  • Lead daily safety briefings, complete Job Hazard Analyses, enforce OSHA and company safety requirements, and stop work immediately when unsafe conditions are identified
  • Develop and maintain three-week lookahead schedules, monitor daily progress, coordinate sequencing with other trades, and implement recovery plans when schedule risks arise
  • Verify electrical installations comply with drawings, specifications, NEC requirements, local codes, and client quality standards
  • Read and interpret blueprints, one-line diagrams, panel schedules, shop drawings, specifications, and change orders
  • Troubleshoot electrical distribution, lighting, controls, and field installation issues while coordinating RFIs and technical resolutions
  • Perform ongoing quality inspections, manage punch-list items, coordinate required inspections, and reduce rework by identifying deficiencies early
  • Submit daily field reports and weekly progress updates documenting manpower, completed work, equipment, delays, risks, and field conditions
  • Forecast labor, material, and equipment needs; verify deliveries; manage secure storage; and coordinate purchase or rental requests with the Project Manager and office team
  • Lead, coach, and evaluate Assistant Superintendents, Foremen, electricians, and traveling craft labor while addressing performance concerns promptly
  • Attend project coordination meetings and maintain professional communication with clients, General Contractors, inspectors, engineers, vendors, and subcontractors
  • Document change conditions and coordinate with the Project Manager before making commitments that affect project cost, scope, or schedule


Required Experience & Qualifications

  • 7-10+ years of commercial electrical construction experience
  • 3-5+ years as Superintendent, Assistant Superintendent, or Foreman leading crews of 5+ electricians (required)
  • Experience managing large electrical crews and complex commercial construction projects
  • Journeyman Electrician License required; Master Electrician License strongly preferred
  • OSHA 30-Hour Construction certification required
  • Thorough knowledge of NEC, OSHA requirements, electrical safety practices, and applicable state and local codes
  • Advanced ability to read electrical drawings, specifications, one-line diagrams, panel schedules, and construction documents
  • Strong troubleshooting experience with power distribution, lighting controls, and basic control systems
  • Demonstrated ability to manage field schedules, manpower, materials, quality, safety, and trade coordination with limited oversight
  • Strong leadership, communication, documentation, conflict-resolution, and field problem-solving skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word, and mobile devices; experience with Bluebeam, Procore, PlanGrid, or similar systems preferred
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record
  • Ability to travel nationally 75-100% and work overtime, weekends, nights, or extended project assignments as required


Preferred Qualifications (Optional)

  • Master Electrician License
  • Experience with low-voltage, fire alarm, data, or control systems
  • Experience supporting project estimating, preconstruction, startup, commissioning, or project turnover
  • Experience managing electrical projects across multiple states
