Position Description

At River City Building Group (RCBG), our Traveling Superintendents lead complex construction projects across diverse geographic markets, with a particular focus on correctional, justice, civic, and other public-sector facilities.

This role is designed for experienced construction professionals who understand the unique demands of building in secure, highly regulated, and operationally sensitive environments. From coordinating work within occupied facilities to navigating security protocols, phased construction, multiple stakeholders, and demanding schedules, our Traveling Superintendents serve as the driving force behind successful project delivery from preconstruction through closeout. The ideal candidate brings previous experience with correctional, justice, civic, municipal, government, or similarly complex institutional construction and thrives in a travel-based environment where every project presents a new challenge.

Key Responsibilities

Safety

  • Maintain a safe, OSHA-compliant jobsite
  • Conduct safety meetings, inspections, and documentation
  • Ensure subcontractor compliance with project safety requirements


Project Execution

  • Coordinate and supervise daily construction activities
  • Manage subcontractors, site logistics, and construction sequencing
  • Monitor progress and support schedule adherence
  • Review drawings, specifications, submittals, and RFIs
  • Maintain daily reports and project documentation


Quality Control

  • Ensure work meets project plans, specifications, and quality standards
  • Coordinate inspections, testing, and punch list activities
  • Identify and resolve field issues proactively


Communication & Leadership

  • Serve as the primary field contact for owners, architects, engineers, and trade partners
  • Collaborate with Project Managers, Estimators, and Safety personnel
  • Lead field coordination meetings and maintain positive project relationships


Preferred Experience

Successful candidates will bring strong commercial construction leadership experience with an emphasis on correctional, justice, civic, municipal, government, or institutional projects.

Experience with one or more of the following is strongly preferred:

  • Correctional facilities, detention centers, jails, prisons, or justice facilities
  • Courthouses, public safety facilities, municipal buildings, or other civic construction
  • Occupied or continuously operational facilities
  • Secure environments with controlled access and heightened security requirements
  • Complex phased construction and renovation projects
  • Public-sector owners and multiple agency/stakeholder groups
  • Projects requiring extensive coordination, documentation, inspections, and regulatory compliance

Position Requirements

  • Travel is a must
  • Experience as a Superintendent in commercial construction
  • Strong knowledge of construction methods, scheduling, safety, and quality control
  • Ability to manage multiple subcontractors and project priorities
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish is preferred
