Current vacancy is with the Tulare County Resource Management Agency (RMA) located in Visalia.

Typical Duties

  • Act as resident engineer on maintenance-related contract projects. Assure project activities and results conform to project plans and specifications.
  • Coordinate the work activity of survey, materials testing, and inspection crews assigned to maintenance projects.
  • Make determinations regarding acceptability of work, payments due, and necessary changes.
  • Prepare specifications and requisitions for the purchase of equipment and supplies.
  • Prepare agreements, contracts, maps, plans, specifications, and estimates for various maintenance projects.

Minimum Qualifications
Minimum qualifications are used as a guide for establishing the education, training, experience, special skills and/or license which are required and equivalent to the following.
Education:
  • Equivalent to completion of the twelfth (12th) grade.


Experience:
  • Six (6) years of civil engineering surveying, inspection, and design practices, three (3) of which were at the advanced sub-professional level, and two (2) of which included supervisory responsibilities, including contract administration.

Knowledge of:
  • Surveying, construction, maintenance, and materials testing practices and procedures.
  • Contract administration.
  • Road construction and maintenance materials, including road asphalts and emulsions.
  • Progress reports and periodic inspection schedules.

Skill/Ability to:
  • Work and communicate effectively with people of various education and socioeconomic backgrounds by respecting beliefs, interpersonal styles, and behaviors of both clients and co-workers.
  • Operate contemporary office equipment, inclusive of computer, keyboard, and all applicable electronic equipment.
  • Prepare agreements, contracts, plans, specifications, descriptions and estimates pertaining to maintenance projects.
  • Review and evaluate pavements for proper maintenance needs.
  • Supervise the work of a crew.
  • Handle routine and special road maintenance problems.

License or Certificate
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid California driver's license.
