The Opportunity

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced professional with strong leadership capabilities and broad technical expertise in transportation planning, transit, and traffic engineering to join our Calgary office as Transportation Planning Division Manager.

Reporting to the Calgary Senior Division Manager, you will collaborate with leaders and managers across the branch while directly managing a team of high-performing technical professionals. In this role, you will lead the delivery of a diverse portfolio of transportation projects, including functional planning studies, transportation master plans, traffic counts, traffic impact assessments, safety reviews, geometric assessments, and other related initiatives.

You will play a critical role in fostering a positive and inclusive team culture built on trust, accountability, and open communication, empowering your team to excel and grow. Building on our reputation as a trusted advisor, you will strengthen the division's position as a leader and manager in delivering high-quality engineering solutions while mentoring and developing talent, driving business development, and deepening client relationships.

What You'll Do
  • Collaborate closely with the Senior Division Manager to drive operational excellence through effective resource sharing and cross-functional teamwork
  • Build and sustain a strong, cohesive team culture that emphasizes safety, inclusivity, project delivery excellence, client satisfaction, and team growth
  • Recruit, mentor, and develop team members, while managing performance to support engagement and retention
  • Lead the successful delivery of multidisciplinary transportation projects, overseeing technical, financial, and schedule components from pursuit positioning through to project completion
  • Manage divisional operations, including client relationships, business development, resource planning, staffing, financial performance, training, quality, and safety
  • Contribute to the development and execution of branch business plans and budgets
  • Represent McElhanney externally with clients, partners, and industry and professional associations to enhance the company's reputation and market presence

What You'll Bring
  • Education in a relevant field, with strong technical expertise in transportation planning, transit, and/or traffic engineering
  • Professional designation (PEng or CTech) in good standing, or eligibility to obtain registration through inter-jurisdictional agreements
  • 10+ years of progressive experience delivering transportation planning assignments
  • Demonstrated success in business development, client relationship management, and securing project work
  • Proven ability to deliver high-quality projects on time and on budget
  • Exposure to managing staff at project and/or team level
  • Experience working on transportation projects with the City of Calgary is a strong asset, including familiarity with local standards, policies, and stakeholder expectations

What Can We Offer You?

The salary range for this position is $110,000 - $160,000 per annum. McElhanney offers fair compensation that is commensurate with the individual's education, experience, skills, and professional qualifications. The posted base salary/wage range is representative of the required level of qualifications and experience for the position as noted in the job posting. The salary offered will be based on the experience and qualifications of the successful candidate.
