Full Job Description
We are currently seeking an Entry-Level Transportation Engineer to join our Transportation Group in our State College, PA office. Recognizing that entry-level engineers are beginning their professional careers, this position offers the opportunity to develop specialized expertise in either the highway or traffic engineering disciplines or to gain experience in both areas.

You'll collaborate directly with senior engineers on projects ranging from local intersection improvements to major interchange and corridor programs - with clients including PennDOT, MDOT, DelDOT, VDOT, and private-sector partners across the Mid-Atlantic. You will gain broad project exposure (with occasional national and international work) and hands-on experience from day one.

Key Responsibilities Include:
  • Highway Engineering
    • Assist in the development of roadway alignments, profiles, and typical sections.
    • Prepare construction plans for roadway geometrics, maintenance of traffic (MOT) and erosion and sediment control.
    • Perform drainage and stormwater design tasks in coordination with senior engineers.
  • Traffic Engineering
    • Assist with traffic designs such as traffic signals, ITS/TSMO devices, signing and pavement markings, roadway lighting, and work zone traffic control.
    • Perform traffic operational/capacity analyses utilizing software such as HCS, Synchro, Sidra, or PTV Products (VISSIM/VISTRO/VISUM).
    • Perform or provide data/analysis support for travel demand modeling and forecasting tasks utilizing software such as CUBE, TransModeler, etc.
    • Perform Highway Safety Manual (HSM) based traffic safety analyses utilizing software tools such as HSS, IHSDM, ISATe, PennDOT HSM Spreadsheet Tools and conduct traditional crash data analysis.
    • Support traffic signal and ITS system operations.
    • Support transportation planning studies for roadway, transit, bicycle, pedestrian, freight, and multimodal transportation systems.
  • Utilize design software (e.g., Microstation, OpenRoads, AutoCAD) to produce plan sets and 3D models.
  • Support preparation of construction specifications, quantity calculations and cost estimates.
  • Contribute to technical reports, studies, and design documentation.
  • Assist in preparing materials for client meetings, public meetings, and agency submissions.
  • Coordinate with internal design disciplines (highway, structures, traffic, utilities, environmental) to integrate design elements.
  • Participate in occasional site visits for data collection, field verification, or design support.
  • Coordinate with senior engineers on permitting requirements and utility research.

Requirements:
  • Bachelor (or higher) of Science degree in Civil or Transportation Engineering from an ABET accredited program.
    • Candidates actively pursuing their degree are eligible to apply.
    • Candidates with other engineering/applied science degrees are eligible to apply.

  • Experience with electrical and communication system design is considered an asset.

  • 0-4 years of relevant experience
  • Relevant internship/job experience preferred.
  • Ability to effectively communicate orally/written.
  • Ability to handle multiple assignments.
  • Experience working with MicroStation and/or AutoCAD preferred.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office suite of products (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Positive attitude and willingness to work cooperatively with others.
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification preferred.

The expected compensation range for this position is $70,000.00 - $125,000.00. This range represents a good faith estimate for this position. The specific compensation offered to a candidate may vary based on factors including, but not limited to, the candidate's relevant knowledge, training, skills, work location, and/or experience.
