Your Opportunity

In the capacity of Transportation Designer, you will be supporting the Community Development Team in municipal projects, with a focus on quality and team collaboration, from proposal preparation to project delivery.

The Transportation Designer has the interpersonal skills to foster a positive team environment and support a culture of team safety. Your skills sets will be called upon to execute a variety of tasks, including the technical preparation of proposals, concept, preliminary and detailed designs, subdivision roadway planning, quality reviews and a technical leadership role.

Your Key Responsibilities
  • Prepares designs at various levels, conceptual, preliminary design, and detailed design, tender and construction ready; and provides support through the construction phase of projects.
  • Design and review sanitary, storm, and water networks.
  • Prepare earthwork calculations using Civil 3D software.
  • Lead and guide the preparation of preliminary and detailed design projects for various clients
  • Design and coordinate with sub-consultants and other disciplines for completion of the project
  • Responsible for ensuring quality plans/reviews under undertaken and when appropriate.
  • Manages a variety of multi-disciplinary engineering design projects including preliminary to detailed design and engineering support through the construction phase of projects.
  • Coordinates with Municipal Agencies for reviews and approvals.
  • Performs design tasks on road related projects, including the design and preparation of engineering drawings, using Civil 3D.
  • Collaborates with other disciplines and supporting technical staff for production of designs and drafting support.
  • Provide general engineering support to the project management team.
  • Conduct quality reviews of design deliverables.


Qualifications

Your Capabilities and Credentials
  • Effective communication skills and aptitude for technical leadership within the group.
  • Participates and collaborates in project team setting and able to engage in creative and critical thought.
  • Excellent time-management skills and ability to work independently.
  • Thorough understanding of applicable design guidelines, standards and codes (e.g., TAC, City of Edmonton Design and Construction Standards)
  • Strong understanding of relevant design software, Civil3D, Auto-Turn, Microsoft Office Suite and Bluebeam Revu.

Education and Experience
  • Engineering Design and a minimum of 5 years of directly related project experience producing urban road designs.

Position will primarily work in an office setting and may require some travel and field work. Work from home alternatives are possible.
