Your Opportunity

Stantec's Colorado Construction Management Group is looking for a highly motivated Construction Manager with strong heavy civil transportation construction experience for our Colorado Springs, CO office.

The Construction Manager is responsible for those tasks listed under the heading Project responsibilities. The primary responsibility of the Construction Manager is to monitor and report on the work being executed on site by the Construction Contractor(s) and their sub-contractors to assist our clients in ensuring the work is being executed in accordance with the construction contract. Responsible for overseeing a team that typically consists of project controls, quality inspectors, and administration staff; may participate in pre-construction activities supporting engineering, estimating, logistics, and execution planning related activities from a construction perspective. Will advise the client on any issues or risks observed and provide recommendations on proposed remedial actions for client's approval.

At the direction of the client, the Construction Manager may also lead the construction execution planning process including but not limited to: communications management, reporting requirements, change management, project controls, scheduling, quality management, risk management, material management, environmental management, regulatory and permitting, and logistics associated with the field construction operations that will take place for the project. Additionally, the Senior Construction Manager may provide preconstruction development support of execution strategies development and assist in constructability reviews. The construction execution planning exercise will be coordinated with the client, the Construction Contractor(s) and other stakeholders.

Your Key Responsibilities
  • Provides construction management leadership to the project team in support of the client.
  • Monitor and reporting function will include making recommendations on proposed remedial actions for client's approval. The Senior Construction Manager does not have authority to make these decisions independently without client approval.
  • Provides Health and Safety Leadership for the work and will assist with development and implementation of the project specific safety plan to be developed and approved by the client/construction contractor(s). This also includes monitoring and reporting on the contractor(s) for compliance to Health, Safety, Security and Environmental project
  • requirements. The monitoring and reporting task is typically delegated to site health and safety representative. This does not in any way alleviate the Construction Contractor(s) or the client regarding Prime Contractor responsibilities as legislated by government occupational health and safety legislation.
  • Efficient project management with technical expert in relevant areas of design and construction and understanding of various methods.
  • Thorough knowledge of construction management, practices and methods, costs, scheduling, estimating, purchasing, and engineering principles and techniques.
  • Highly effective in building and maintaining client relationships.
  • Understands legal design and construction requirements for public works contracts.
  • Thorough knowledge and interpretation of code compliance requirements and industry standards.
  • Solves complex problems using sound professional judgment, creativity, and innovation.
  • Participates and collaborates in project team setting, engagein creative and critical thought, and effectively communicates ideas, design issues and solutions to others.
  • Leads the preparation and coordination of the project deliverables and documents including project reports, cost and schedule reporting, specification reviews and recommendations, and production of engineering documents.
  • Ability to read, understand and interpret engineering contract documents, drawings, specifications, scopes of work and project schedule.
  • Monitors and coordinates with Contractors' work for compliance to schedule, budget, technical specifications, and legal requirements.
  • Examines field conditions as required to support development and completion of the project.
  • Review's Contractor request for change and when appropriate, assists in the preparation of contract change orders/modifications.
  • This position will involve work in an office environment in addition to for long-term field assignments working on a construction site.


Qualifications

Your Capabilities and Credentials
  • Valid driver's license is required.
  • Proficient in Microsoft (MS) Office Suite.
  • Primavera skills are desirable.
  • OSHA certification is preferred.

Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or another related field, is preferred.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) registered in State of Colorado is preferred. A PE can be substituted for extensive construction experience focused on infrastructure projects with a government agency.
  • 10+ years' experience in heavy civil transportation construction projects.
  • CDOT project experience is preferred.

Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.
