SUMMARY OF POSITION:

Under the guidance of the Manager of the Transplant program and in collaboration with the Director of Transplant Director the Solid Organ Transplant Nurse Educator is responsible for the planning, designing and executing all education efforts for heart transplant candidates and transplant recipients for kidney, liver, and heart transplants within the hospital and community setting. The Solid Organ Transplant Nurse Educator will follow established clinical practice guidelines and hospital policy in addition to adult learning principles to deliver education that fulfills CMS and other regulatory requirements. The SOT Nurse Educator will maintain knowledge related to the standard of care for candidates and recipients of kidney, liver and heart transplants. Their duties include, but are not limited to, coordination of staff orientation to transplant and annual training for all departments/units within the organization where transplant patients and are cared for. Transplant training will be tailored to the individual roles of staff within those departments/units based on pertinent information to assist them in their delivery of care to transplant heart candidates and recipients. The Solid Organ Transplant Nurse Educator will maintain and update annual competencies, and all patient related education material based on regulatory standards.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION(S):

  • Currently licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse by state of employment or holds a multistate RN license through the interstate Nurse Licensure Compact.
  • Bachelor's degree in nursing
  • Two (2) years of experience caring for transplant patients and/or as a Nurse Educator
  • AHA BLS prior to end of orientation period
PREFERRED QUALIFICATION(S):

  • Experience working as a Nurse Educator
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Requires excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Certification in Nurse Professional Development
  • Certification as a Clinical Transplant Coordinator (CCTC)- New hire must have a plan with direct supervisor to obtain CCTC within three (3) years of hire.
