Position summary:The Transit Operations Application Developer serves as a trusted partner to transit operations and maintenance personnel, developing business applications, dashboards, reports, and workflow solutions that improve operational performance, decision-making, and efficiency. This position works directly with stakeholders to understand business processes, identify improvement opportunities, gather requirements, and deliver user-focused applications that solve real-world operational challenges.

The ideal candidate combines strong interpersonal and analytical skills with application development expertise. Success in this role is measured by the ability to develop solutions that are intuitive, effective, and widely adopted by end users.

Compensation for this position is $160,000.00 - $220,000.00, commensurate with experience, education and certifications. The provided range is a good faith estimate based on the requirements described within the job description. Essential functions and responsibilities

  • Examine and study internal and external clients' existing IT systems, processes, and business models
  • Understand the expectations and high-level requirements of the solution to be developed
  • Learn hardware, software, technical requirements, and configurations to provide recommendations for modification or replacement of existing systems
  • Learn existing system APIs and assist application architects in the integration of third-party data in solution designs
  • Validate that the recommended solution aligns with business goals and objectives
  • Liaise with users to understand and document business, functional and technical requirements
  • Conduct facilitated workshops/interviews/sessions/questionnaires aimed at interacting with audiences of the solution being developed and understanding the complete requirements details
  • Document detailed technical requirements, hardware requirements and logic implementations
  • Prepare System Requirement Specification (SRS), and Functional Requirement Specification (FRS)
  • Create use cases, user stories, class diagrams, Entity-Relationship (ER) diagrams and sequence diagrams
  • Create models, flow charts, wireframes, Context Diagrams, Data Flow Diagrams, and Process Flow Diagrams
  • Support the design of the complete system in coordination with the technical team
  • Plan how the system is expected to behave in different situations/environments and document exceptions
  • Help programmers understand the complete requirements and all the associated aspects
  • Review test cases and assist the testing team in identifying testing scenarios
  • Liaise with the testing team to ensure the functional and technical compatibility of the product with the requirements
  • Ensure traceability of the documented and approved technical, functional, and non-functional requirements from the original customer-supplied specifications through test cases and deployed code
  • Control any deviations from the plan by having proper preventive actions in place and correct any defects by implementing corrective actions
  • Support the presentation of interim and final solution to the business owners for approval and feedback
  • Assist in the deployment of the solution in the UAT and Production environments
  • Inspect and validate the installed and configured systems
  • Support the maintenance of the deployed system including operational support
  • Prepare user manuals, technical handouts, and operational manuals for the deployed solution
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Required Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Business Analytics, Engineering or related fields
  • 5-10 years of related experience in analysis and elicitation of systems requirements
  • 5-10 years of experience working in agile and agile-hybrid methodologies and understanding of the software development lifecycle (SDLC)
  • Expertise in database analysis and troubleshooting
  • Experience in the role of liaison between business and technical/development teams
  • Demonstrated experience gathering business requirements and translating operational needs into technical solutions
  • Experience developing and deploying business applications, dashboards, and reporting solutions using Microsoft Power BI and related Microsoft technologies
  • Experience working with relational databases and developing SQL queries for data extraction, transformation, and analysis

Preferred Experience
  • Experience with Microsoft Power Platform, including Power Apps and Power Automate
  • Experience with enterprise asset management systems such as IBM Maximo
  • Experience supporting transit, transportation, infrastructure, maintenance, engineering, or asset management organizations
  • Experience with KPI development, performance management, and dashboard design
  • Experience with user interface and user experience design principles
  • Experience leading organizational change initiatives and supporting user adoption of new technologies.

Working Conditions

Work is performed within a general office environment. Work is generally sedentary in nature, but may require occasional standing and walking. Lighting and temperature are adequate and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc. within the office environment.
