As a TRAINING INSTRUCTOR (NUCLEAR POLICY) at the GS-1712-13 some of your typical work assignments may include:
- Researches, designs, develops, and delivers advanced instructional courseware on the U.S. nuclear enterprise, nuclear weapons effects, stockpile management, emerging concepts related to conventional-nuclear integration, and strategic deterrence policy.
- Serves as a Primary Course Manager for advanced instructional programs, maintaining full accountability for academic quality, scheduling, and resource allocation.
- Coordinates the integration of guest lecturers, senior military leaders, and external interagency experts into the curriculum.
- Provides authoritative technical guidance on the physical characteristics, safety, security, system capabilities, life cycle, and component engineering of current and retired U.S. nuclear weapon systems, including Life Extension Programs (LEPs).
- Builds, manages, and leverages strategic partnerships across a complex network of stakeholders, including the Joint Staff, Combatant Commands, Service Headquarters, DoE, NNSA, and the National Laboratories (such as Los Alamos, Lawrence Livermore, and Sandia).

- Work may require travel away from the normal duty station; may be required to travel on military and commercial aircraft. Travel includes both CONUS and OCONUS locations.

- May be required to work other than normal duty hours, which may include evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- The employee must be willing to comply with each Combatant Command (COCOM) travel medical requirement to include vaccinations.

QualificationsYou may qualify at the GS-13, if you fulfill the following qualifications:
A. One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service:
- Analyzed, formulated, and briefed advanced concepts related to the U.S. nuclear weapons stockpile (including safety, security, system capabilities, and life cycle), national/foreign strategic nuclear policy, and national deterrence frameworks to ensure alignment with the National Defense Strategy and nuclear posture directives.
- Planned, designed, developed, evaluated, and maintained advanced technical educational courses, curriculum modules, Programs of Instruction, and instructional handbooks to address critical technical knowledge gaps.
- Delivered, facilitated, and directed high-level technical instruction and educational programs on complex nuclear enterprise issues for senior leadership audiences-including O-5/O-6 military officers, GS-14/GS-15 civilians, senior executives, and national laboratory scientists-across physical, virtual/distance learning, and Mobile Training Team (MTT) environments.
- Orchestrated course execution and quality assurance as a Course Manager; conducted peer evaluations of instructional staff, coordinated subject matter experts and guest lecturers, and managed complex operational logistics, including multi-agency travel schedules, program budgets, and physical material distribution.
