Responsibilities, Requirements, and Total RewardsWhat You'll Be DoingAs a valuable part of our
Transportation team, a
Traffic Project Manager, will lead and manage a variety of traffic engineering and transportation planning projects throughout Connecticut while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to deliver innovative solutions that improve mobility, safety, and quality of life in the communities we serve. Your responsibilities will include:
- Managing traffic engineering and transportation projects from proposal development through design, permitting, and construction support
- Serving as project manager for traffic impact studies, corridor studies, intersection improvements, traffic signal design, safety evaluations, and multimodal transportation projects
- Developing project scopes, schedules, budgets, and staffing plans while ensuring projects are delivered on time and within budget
- Coordinating with municipal, state, and regional agencies, including CTDOT and local municipalities
- Leading project meetings and present technical findings and recommendations to clients, public officials, regulatory agencies, and community stakeholders
- Preparing and reviewing traffic analyses, traffic simulation models, safety studies, signal timing evaluations, and transportation planning reports
- Providing technical leadership and mentorship to transportation staff, supporting their professional growth and development
- Assisting with business development activities, including client relationship management, proposal preparation, and identifying new project opportunities
- Collaborate with transportation planners, roadway designers, environmental scientists, and other technical disciplines to deliver integrated solutions
What You'll Need - Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Transportation Engineering, or a related field
- Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain licensure within a reasonable timeframe
- 9+ years of progressive experience in traffic engineering
- Demonstrated experience managing traffic engineering projects and client relationships
- Strong knowledge of transportation engineering principles, traffic operations, traffic signal systems, and roadway safety analysis
- Experience preparing traffic impact studies, safety assessments, and transportation planning reports
- Familiarity with MUTCD, Highway Capacity Manual (HCM), and applicable state and local design standards
- Strong communication, presentation, and project management skills
- Ability to effectively manage multiple projects and priorities in a collaborative consulting environment
Preferred Requirements- Experience working with CTDOT and Connecticut transportation agencies
- Experience with Synchro/SimTraffic, HCS, SIDRA, or other traffic analysis and simulation software
- Experience with OpenRoads (with CT DOT DDE) and AutoCAD Civil 3D
- Experience with traffic signal design, traffic signal operations, and traffic control systems
- Experience mentoring and leading technical staff
- Established relationships with transportation clients and stakeholders within the region
- Proven track record of business development and successful proposal pursuits
- Professional Traffic Operations Engineer (PTOE) certification and/or Roadway Safety Professional certification
- Membership and/or leadership experience within industry organizations (ITE, ASCE, WTS, ITS, etc.)
